Really, what?  He's a generation-defining player, and athletically one of the 15 greatest to ever suit up.  In terms of passion and motivational power, he's probably top three.

Why are people acting like Ray Lewis should just retire and fade quietly into the mythos of NFL history?  Dude was an NFL juggernaut and figurehead for almost two decades.

Completely agree.

Actually the problem isnt that Freeman stinks. He is average. He puts up good numbers just often enough to make you think he is better than he is. Bad and great are convincing. But mediocre makes you live with the delusion for too many years. He is just good enough to waste our time and not good enough to get us where we want to go.

Has there ever been a player that identified more with his team or city?

I've been hearing a LOT of negativity surrounding Ray Lewis lately, a lot of which is projecting this aura of overratedness toward him.  I don't get it.  He didn't have a great season, but I think his career speaks for itself.

If Ray Lewis doesn't deserve a statue in Baltimore, Jon Gruden sure as **CENSORED** doesn't deserve one in Tampa.

There's no denying what he did on the field, but should they be building a statue for a guy who helped cover up murder.
