Tender on Sam Shields

Why would you give up a 2nd round pick for Shields and not give up a 1st for Revis? Makes no sense, and don't bring up money.

But money is the answer.

The point isn't whether the team would pay for him, it's how his salary impacts value. Revis getting paid the amount of two good free agents drives down his trade value because it eliminates a lot of his market.

My comment was intended for the people around here who bring up what we will have to pay him. As far as value I agree, but the Jets don't have to trade him. How badly do we need a corner?

we need a corner badly and a dl as well. the fact we wont bring in one freaking free agent lately is really starting to piss me off. seriously , we dont go after osi or freeney ? even for situational pass rush. we need to improve the pass rush this season. i do not think our current players do that. we need corners badly, we are gonna end up stuck with wright....johnson, biggers etc. they should lose their job if we go into the season with these guys as starters and we end up getting torched again. i dont care what anyone says....."theyre not enamored with this years cb's" well no one is overpaying !!!! we overpaid for wright. 4 or 5 million a year for  a sean smith or antoine cason. these guys at least turn their heads when the ball is thrown and dont play fifteen yards off the ball. i just dont get this FO right now.

From purely a skill perspective, I think everyone would trade #13 for Revis and think they got a steal. It's the other stuff, the injury, the salary, the history of holdouts, that changes that value.

I think Dom is being prudent.  I too think we need a situational pass rusher, and did not need Bennett.  I woul love osi as a pass rush specialist which would allow bowers to slide to DT on passing downs.  I am all for Sam Shields, I think he is better right now than any corner in the draft and any free agent that was available.  I like Grimes too, but a rehabbed Grimes may be no better than wright.  I am puzzled that Green Bay only gave him a 2nd round tender.

There is a risk factor with Revis, he will need to be cleared medically and I'm sure we will draw up a similiar contract the Jets did with a hold out clause. Also I'm fine with bringing in a free agent corner and drafting one early if we don't make the trade. I'm not fine with giving up a second round pick on Sam Shields when we could of landed Revis with a first rounder and a couple mid round picks though.
