The Buccaneers and Mike Williams are "very close" to a contract extension according to the receiver who spoke to the media after practice this week. Williams is entering the final year of his four-year rookie contract and is set to earn a reported $1.44 million dollars in 2013.

Front load the hell out of this year so we can have more room for GMC and possibly Freeman's deal.

Good lord. You're supposed to extend players before their contracts run out so that way they can only negotiate with you and not know how much one of the other 31 teams is willing to pay.

FRG is the most logical poster on this board.  You guys just don\'t like where the logical conclusions take you.

He isn't holding out. He'll play this season regardless of whether he signs an extension or not. How is signing an extension with your current team when they want to re-sign you in any way dishonorable? Also, with the way rookie contracts work, players have very little wiggle room to negotiate a fair deal coming into the league. MW has been considerably underpaid for his first three years and hasn't even held out.

Why bother FRG? Pissing in the wind trying to explain that to him Chron

Honor your contract so you can have the option of leaving in free agency. That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Rare talent that has done nothing but make big plays since he's been here. You pay him what he wants and lock him up for his career.
