Let's suppose week 1 rolls around and Dougie sprains an ankle in practice and is unable to start, you'd actually be more comfy with Brian freakin Leonard lining up vs the Jets than you would McGahee?

I thought Lovie said he wanted quickness & speed, even at the QB position?

I think Schiano and the Bucs like the depth behind Martin or they would have snatched up McGahee. That said I think James is our long term #2 solution with a veteran presence like Leonard around for leadership. Sorta like Dallas Clark last season at the TE position.
Everything about James tape tells me he is a smart football player who would be just as happy logging ST's minutes as he would toting the rock...atleast for this season.

We could roll with the White Lightning.

Lets see it this way, passing on (a guy like) McGahee only becomes a problem for us, if
-Martin goes down
-Leonard is not able to step up
-M James does not o step up either
-None of the other unknown guys on our roster now have not shown anything in TC then
-we could not get any other cutted RB to step up to backup Martin, somebody that is still on an NFL roster NOW, unlike McGahee Especially true when the guys on our roster now give you reason to doubt 'em before week 1.

He is Plan E right now and we already adressed those 'needs' of a backup. I do not know what McGahee can give us NOW to really make us 'give up' on any other plans. Guys like McGahee becoming available to us is not be anything surpring, and most likely there will be more guys like that being cutted before week 1. Still Dom and Schiano used a late round pick on a RB etc....giving you an idea how those guys are rated by the people of matter.
I think to some point you have to stick to your plan, especially if flip flopping every seconds has some kind of costs and its not like we are already tied to our unknown guys yet. Atleast to some degree you have to give your unknown guys a chance to put a name to themselves, else you have to question your overall plan of drafting or signing unknown guys at all.

We are still talking backup RB, i far more concerned about DL next year, here we could actually talk potentional starters, here we could really talk lack of talent. Not even mentioning QB, where we could end up with nobody to throw balls to our 'awesome' weapons after 2013. I mean Martin still has a realistic chance on being back in 2014, even if he gets injured this year.
I think signing McGahee to cover the risk of us not getting anyone to backup Martin once he goes down, when we already have multiple potential answers to, is overdoing it.

I think he's worthy of bring into camp..... And let the chips fall where they may. If he's outplayed in preseason, you send him packing.

Sure, but what qualifies as outplayed? What about a tie?

I already tried to point out how Dom&Schiano (might) already have made this comparision, since i do not think they are suprised by guy like McGahee being cut. They might make the same (wrong) decision again.
Furthermore what makes you believe we can not get somebody like him after preason, incase our unknonw guys 'sucked' so far, to 'justify' carrying McGahee through TC? Do not get me wrong here, by  'carrying' i refer to him being plan E, even if i would consider him #2 on the depth chart right now (but by how much?)

How is a 2nd round bust in the same conversation with Willis McGahee?

Have you people lost your minds?

Brian Leonard is training camp fodder.

Willis McGahee career stats:

Career NFL statistics as of 2012
Attempts    1,957
Rushing yards    8,097
Rushing TDs    63
Receptions    202
Receiving yards    1,319
Receiving TDs    5

4.13 average per rush Pro Bowl player in 2007 and 2011. Might be a slightly better option than Brian freaking Leonard.

I like MaGahee and wouldn't mind picking him up but he's a fumble machine.. That's a big thing with Schiano.

I rather wait and see who else will come available.

I'm sure Kregg Lumpkin will be available.

Not exactly who I had in mind, but if that's your boy and who you want by all means, knock yourself out.

Kregg Lumpkin isn't really my guy at all. Kregg Lumpkin is who you end up with after all of these other players are already snapped up. The status quo of this FO is to wait until the last second and get a Lumpkin Ward or Blount.

How is that plan going?
