And the coaching staff.  Time to blow it up and start over.

Agree if its true then they should turn to Glennon ASAP. At least players would get behind a rookie because what else can you do?

After reports emerged regarding the Buccaneers’ pre-Week One players only meeting that addressed among other things the legitimacy of the vote for 2013 captains, reports emerged that quarterback Josh Freeman (who lost his “C” after three years wearing it) missed the official team photograph.

Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune appeared earlier this morning on SiriusXM NFL Radio with Ross Tucker and soon-to-be-Hall-of-Famer Derrick Brooks to discuss the situation.

Kaufman addressed his belief that the relationship between the team and its starting quarterback is reaching “critical mass,” explaining that he doesn’t believe the statement amounts to hyperbole.  The problem, per Kaufman, is a perceived lack of commitment to the team from Freeman.

“My information is that it’s not the first time Freeman has been late for or completely missed a team function,” Kaufman said.

With some prodding by Tucker, Kaufman acknowledged that a players-only meeting occurred last week.  While Kaufman initially explained the meeting as an effort to address Freeman’s lack of commitment to the team, Kaufman eventually conceded that, as he hears it, the meeting was aimed at addressing concerns about both Freeman and the coaching staff.

Still, the concerns about Freeman are coming out only after reports surfaced of the players-only meeting that included concerns about the coaching staff.  It’s impossible not to at least wonder whether the Bucs, who declined comment to PFT about the players-only meeting or its contents, have launched a P.R. assault on Freeman in order to take the focus away from potential player concerns about the coaching staff.

Either way, after an offseason of denials it’s becoming more and more clear that 2013 will be Freeman’s last year in Tampa, barring a dramatic and unexpected shift in mindsets and attitudes.

“If the Bucs had a viable option, Freeman might already be replaced,” Kaufman said.

So, basically, the Bucs will stick with Freeman while Mike Glennon engages in a Gale Boetticher-style crash course aimed at getting to the point where he can take over the operation.

On Wednesday, we reported that Tampa Bay players held a players-only meeting last week to discuss, among other things, concerns about the voting process that ended quarterback Josh Freeman three-year run as a team captain.

In the wake of that report, another report has emerged regarding an event that happened last week:  Freeman missed the annual team photo.

It’s hard not to wonder whether the Buccaneers, who declined comment when contacted by PFT regarding the players-only meeting and the concern that the votes were counted incorrectly, leaked the week-old Freeman photo story to provide a piece of tangible proof as to why players chose not to vote for Freeman.

Freeman didn’t help his cause by responding to a question on the topic from Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune with this:  “You know I can’t do Buc non-sanctioned interviews.”

Kaufman separately has tweeted that “Josh Freeman’s tenure with the Bucs appears to be reaching critical mass,” and that Freeman needs a “big game” against the Saints to “stop the bleeding.”

For their part, the Bucs have done a great job of stopping the bleeding regarding last week’s players-only meeting.  Kaufman’s article completely ignores it, opting instead to frame our report as something far different than it was.

“That story is 100 percent inaccurate,’’ coach Greg Schiano told Kaufman in response to a story that we never published.  We never said that the vote was rigged; we reported only that the players held a meeting and the captain vote was one of the topics raised.

But we can’t blame Kaufman for distorting our report.  With power-drunk college coaches like Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban taking advantage of their local stranglehold on the press, the Tampa Tribune needs to play nice with the Bucs or the Tampa Bay Times will get all the access from the former college coach who now runs the show at One Buc Place.

I heard they also discussed Parking issues and religious preferences when talking to the media...

sigh.

Who knew how good it would feel as a fan when we now know what it\'s like for our team to have a direction, an attitude, and dare I say an offense?.

Good time to be a Bucs fan.

A win this Sunday and all of this becomes ancient history...Freeman plays well, and all this will be forgotten as fast as you can say "Teach me how to Dougie" :-)

If players are questioning Josh's commitment BEFORE the season starts, no a win this Sunday won't make them forget. It'll be hanging in the lockeroom at halftime of every game Freeman hasn't played well in. It'll be there all week after a loss.

If true, how bad this is for the team shouldn't be understated

I won't... Anything short of the Conference Championship game and I want a new QB next year. I feel like they put everything on this year to validate what they've been trying to put together here and so far he's shltted on us.

Give me a new QB next year.

The same thought popped in my head, never seen a meltdown this fast. At this point we just got to wait and see what the truth is, 5 more reports will come out from now until sunday with 5 different rumors.

And that's whats crazy.  Why didn't these reports come out last week?  Shoot, If they won I bet these reports still wouldn't have come out.  Like I have said Dom is done if this is legit.
