Who's gonna build the defense for Gruden? You know, that one that is considered one of the best all time?

Has a fired NFL Coach ever been rehired by the same team who fired him?

A great defensive mind should be easy to find for Chucky.  If anything, he has made more and solidified more contacts with his MNF gig as well as all the touring of pro and college camps he does on his own before each season.

He isn't coaching again.  He has a great gig at ESPN.

Gruden would be the best thing they could do. No one would bring more instant cred, fans or excitement.

Dungy would, he left with pretty much everyone liking him.  Gruden and more to the point Allen were 50/50.  I was not a fan of Gruden 03-08 to put it mildly.  Even I would welcome him back now, though.

he is a great coach and I would love to have him back, but only if he doesn't have a say in drafting and personnel. as good as he was at coaching, he was just as bad at drafting and evaluating talent.

Wad, I'm not sure of the extent of Gru's input (DTG, please advise) back then, but I can't argue with you based on the people we DID bring in during his time.

MNF on 11/11 should be very interesting. I can't wait for the Gruden chants!

As long as we are talking about things that will never happen I want the Glazers to hire Vince Lombardi for our next head coach.

I know it would be tough getting him off his arse and out of the air conditioning... but (for the right price) I think it can be done.

Gruden is the quintessential Buccaneer. That snarling face and rough voice just SCREAMS Buccaneers.

He's the best coach we've ever had  here in Tampa. He won us our first and only superbowl.

Things just got tough towards the end there. It got stagnant for him... but I think since he's been gone for so long and has had a break from coaching ...and has been able to observe football from the outside, he could come in with a new perspective... and right this ship.

I miss the Chucky days... and I'd like to have them back.

If Schiano must go then I can't think of a better replacement than Gruden. He is my favorite Buccaneers coach of all time and man I was pissed when they fired him. Gruden never got a fair shake in Tampa. Many who didn't like him blame his poor drafting as the downfall of his team but, Gruden had no draft picks to speak of for a couple of years and that is what set the team back. If he would of had the full compliment of draft picks from the start I believe he would still be our coach and I think we would of thrown another SB in there.
