The counselor seems to be drifting farther away from reality. Does anyone get where he's trying to go with the 'Great and Powerful Oz' theme? He's mentioned it quite a few times now. I just watched that movie again a few weeks ago, and I'm not really seeing the insult. Where is the connection? Did the kids in the schoolyard all call him Dorothy? Does he want to go back to Kansas? Is he afraid of monkeys? Maybe he thinks I look like James Franco and he's hitting on me?

Can anyone explain?

I am just posting because I want your attention, but unfortunately you are too smart for that Great and Powerful Oz.... Which explains why ....er... you're still here? No wait, your too smart, which explains why you got caught in your own lie? Uh ....hmm ... you're too smart ...um ....(wait, that is what you try to price to yourself and others on the Red Board, right?) umm .... You're too smart, which is why all you could think to do after getting caught in your lie was dig up old threads?

Hmm, why not just come out from behind that curtain? You'll enjoy life more.

Not a single person actually bought that 'caught in a lie' bit. Not a one.

Haven't you even noticed I stopped beating up on you? It didn't make any difference though, you just can't seem to stop inflicting damage on yourself.

I like your fantasy world . .  . but not as much as you clearly do  . . . comforting, I guess . . .    ;)

hey, what's the date today? The 23rd, right?  This was the 18th:

someone just needs attention. Stop giving it to him.

Oh wait . . .  you're still here . .  in a new thread no less . .  because of what you posted right before that:

Less guns in the wrong hands decreases gun violence.

lol . . . . . .the LIE revealed . .  . and you've been spinning like a top since Oh Great and Powerful Oz

take your complaint to the GUN DEALER who called it an assault rifle in his own add.  Lol. You cant have it both ways. The gun dealer (don't give me "private seller") chooses those words for a reason.

Ever heard of snake oil? If not I have a bridge to sell you.

Nobody worth their salt wouldn't buy something labelled as an "assault rifle" by a so called "dealer". Smacks of rip off. And no, I am not going to explain why there are 13 pages of "assault rifles" on that website. Just goes to show how many gullible fools there are out there.

That's not a lie. Less guns in the wrong hands would reduce gun violence. Of course, less guns in the wrong hands is not the same thing as less guns overall. Saying that it is the same thing... well, there's your lie. But that's coming from you, not me. It has been my position from the beginning that enforcing existing laws would reduce gun violence - by leaving less guns in the wrong hands, while at the same time not compromising the rights of law abiding citizens. The overall number of guns wouldn't decline, but gun violence would.

I don't actually mind engaging you one on one, Vin. All I have to do is stick to the content of the debate, and not let you manipulate the conversation into fulfilling your process needs. You really should find a healthier , more productive way to get those needs filled. Your life would be better for it.

Spartan, spin it however you want but that is a gun person selling to other gun people.  Only gun advocates trying to make ridiculous distinctions rely on the statutory definition. Hell, even wikipedia notes the common parlance.  Illuminator knew exactly what I meant. He just raised the issue to distract fro the fact he inadvertently admitted that less guns equals less gun violence, lol.

In his mind you are the great and powerful Oz of the board. By peddling the myth of "catching you in a lie" he (in his mind) has now removed the curtain and exposed you for the fraud he wants you to be seen as. If he can't attack the content of the post then he attacks the poster and vice versa.  In other words, he saying "look at me everyone, I just slew the great and powerful Oz"

It's so **CENSORED**in' pathetic.

This is a good time to say a few words about content vs. process. Content is the words used in a conversation, process is what the conversation is actually about. In a normal, "healthy" conversation, content and process are the same. But the more dysfunctional one or more participants in the conversation is, the further apart content and process become.

In any type of abusive relationship, content varies widely, but process remains the same. The purpose is always to instill self doubt. "Why do you always make me..." It doesn't really matter what follows, that is merely content. The process, the true intent of the conversation, is already established in the first six words. This is an example of blame shifting, in which an abuser shifts responsibility for their abusive actions onto the person they are abusing. People who suffer long term exposure to this wide disparity between content and process learn to think within that framework themselves.

Go back and reexamine this thread. Ignore the content and look at the process. When only one person at a time would respond to him, and insisted on sticking to the subject (content), Vin started to abandon the conversation. When forced to stick to content in a one on one match, his argument is untenable and he loses. His repeated attempts at switching the conversation to personal attacks failed and his participation declined. But when more people become involved, it's much easier to devolve the conversation into a mud slinging contest. And no one ever really wins a mud slinging contest - and no one ever really loses, as long as they don't give up. At that point, content is irrelevant, process is everything. The process in this case is internal narrative. In his mind, Vin is the hero that's holding his own against multiple opponents. He's outnumbered, so he doesn't have to win to feed his ego, he just has to not lose. And he almost never loses because he's so willing to lie and engage in denial. He rids himself of guilt for his dishonest behavior by projecting it onto others. We've seen this multiple times, as soon as he feels guilt about something he accused someone else of it. So as long as he doesn't quit, he sees himself as winning. And that's why he's obsessed with me, and why he's trying so hard to get me into a mud slinging contest again; I'm the only one who's ever beat him down to the point of quitting. "Can't talk, football."

So why do people become obsessed with process to the point that content becomes secondary? Sometimes, content itself provides a clue. If you look at Benchwarmer's obsession, and focus strictly on process, you can see that in his internal narrative he's vanquishing a father figure. This is a repetition compulsion. The subject has suffered some sort of psychic trauma that they were unable to resolve. So they bury that pain and never consciously acknowledge it. Then, they subconsciously recreate those same conditions over and over in an attempt to resolve that trauma. One of the more obvious examples of this is the cheatin ho. She has an unacknowledged sexual attraction to her father figure and a love/hate relationship with him. She subconsciously recreates this scene over and over. She seduces new men, then when they become attached to her she abandons them. This is partially a vindictive revenge, and partially because once she has "conquered" them, they no longer fulfill her requirements for a father figure that she is unable to conquer. Such women will go their entire lives and never see the pattern they are following, instead seeing themselves as "victims" of love.

And what of our little Vin here? Well when I look at him I clearly see an outcast little boy, brutally castigated by his peers, who has become a grown man recreating that same psychic trauma over and over. Pull your head out of your ass son, it's time to grow up. If you can't do it by yourself, go get some professional help. It's either that or spend the rest of your life in a hell of your own creation.

Where does his need to be a supreme kiss ass fit in to this evaluation?

Right back to the schoolyard drama, outcast picked on by everyone, wants to be the teacher's pet. Sucks up to authority looking for a protector, and as a way to snub his nose at those who he believes to be his persecutors. Never sees that he's the one creating the conditions that lead to his misery. Has spent his entire life building a psychological defense system designed to keep him from seeing it, so he doesn't have to consciously acknowledge the pain of being who he believes himself to be.

But he's not exactly alone, almost everyone does this to some degree. It only becomes noticeable when it causes great dysfunction in their lives.

Dear Gun Haters: We lost this one. Move on to something else. We'll circle back to guns post-singularity.

Dear Gun Lovers: We're coming for your guns! Continue worrying about guns while we go over here and legalize gay marriage and pot. It should be obvious from the last 20 years that this whole gun laws things could tip in either direction at any moment. Oh and keep working on abortion ... you're almost there! Any day now! Also I'm not 100% convinced Obama was born in the US ... you should look into that again. It's a very important use of your time. Oh and the war against Christmas. Totally a real thing! Don't let your guard down!

Seriously though, all joking aside, I hate both gun lovers and gun haters and would be very happy if I never had to hear from either of you ever again. The same goes for Apple v. Android, PS4 v. XB1, vegetarians v. meat eaters, pro-life v. pro-choice and all the other endless debates that will never be resolved because the last person on the internet who was willing to change their mind on an issue has long since moved off the grid.

It's borderline criminal to spend so much time worrying about issues which cannot change (due to neither side having a clear majority) when there are countless issues we COULD actually use all that energy to make some meaningful changes in the world. You're better off spending 30 minutes once a week volunteering than arguing with someone over guns or abortion or any other "stale-mate" issue.

Now you could well argue "well why did you click on this thread then?" ... to which I will say: "didn't know what it was about." To which you could say, "but once you realized you could have left without comment" and you are correct.

That said, I think sometimes its important for gun lovers and gun haters (and all the other groups on both sides) to realize that most of us just wish you'd BOTH shut up. You are both wrong. You are both right. Now give it a rest. We may technically fall on one side or the other of the debate if pushed but mostly we realize these things might as well be set in stone at this point and there really isn't much point getting so worked up about it when there are other less important but far more flexible issues in the world.

The amount we talk about gun laws >>>>>>>>>>>>>> the amount we make meaningful changes to gun laws.

You certainly like to paint with a broad brush. I'm for legalizing gay marriage and marijuana. I'm pro-choice and believe that separation of church and state is an absolute necessity.

"That said, I think sometimes its important for gun lovers and gun haters (and all the other groups on both sides) to realize that most of us just wish you'd BOTH shut up. You are both wrong. You are both right. Now give it a rest."

Take your own advice; shut your piehole and move along.
