While I understand perfectly there is nothing wrong with anticipating plays or dissecting film to predict tendencies as being part of the game and certainly within the rules of the game. You notice a tendency of a player or recognize a signal for what play is always run and that is just good preparation.
However, It's far more complicated than that. ........

FSU changes its signals for every single game.  And FSU's signals are not the same signals that FSU used when Craig was here.  Signals are like language, though, you can't just learn a new language every week.  There is a code and methodology to Jimbo's signals that stays constant.  But the window dressing gets changed every week.  This prevents teams like Clemson from being to able to break down FSU film and decipher FSU signals easily.  However, when a coach like Craig...who used to be one of the guys signaling in plays for FSU...breaks down FSU film with the intent of deciphering FSU signals, he does so equipped with the code-key to break the code.  He knows, based on his intimate knowledge of Jimbo and the FSU program, which signals are likely just the window-dressing, and which are the real thing.

It wasn't just an issue of Craig standing on Auburn's sideline and seeing Jimbo's signals and thinking "damn, man ain't changed his signals...I'm gonna use this to help us win."  He spent a month breaking down film and breaking the code in order to gain an unfair advantage on the field for Auburn.

To me that really taints what should have been viewed as a great Auburn defensive effort the first half that really fell off in the second half when the towels came out.

Coach Craig Stealing/TOWELS NOT OUT
Yards Plays
0 3
18   6
6 3
4 2
66   11
0 3
TOTAL:  94 yds on 28 plays
Avg. Yds/Play: 3.357

Towels OUT/No Stealing
Yards Plays
59   9
67   11
-4    3
28   5
56   5
80   7
TOTAL: 286 yds on 40 plays
Avg. Yds/Play: 7.15

I realize many disagree and feel that if you aren't cheating you aren't trying and put the blame on Fisher for not realizing this might be done. Miami also had the same advantage with Coley but UM chose to play it straight.

Bottom line if it was something to be praised why isn't Craig seeking awards and acclaim for his guile and wisdom in managing to tell the defense exactly what play FSU was going to run during the game?    if it is such a great way to play the game. Why the silence from Craig?

Why isn't Craig being lauded for his craftiness?

As I said I would have loved to believe that Auburn played outstanding defense the first half of the game against FSU but that thought goes into the dumpster.

HEY IT IS ALL GOOD!  FSU WON AND CHEATERS DIDN'T PROSPER...      Heck, arguably one of the most dynamic drives in BCS history might not have happened had Craig not done what he did.   Great Win! great comeback for one of the truly great teams of the last 30 years.

A) It isn't cheating
B) FSU does cheat, and does it with the best of them

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/auburn-coach-stealing-florida-state-offensive-signals-during-195811709--ncaaf.html

“They had a couple of our signals a couple times and were getting to them. That happens, people do it, and that’s our fault. You’ve got to change them, constantly rotate them, being able to get them in different ways. That’s part of the game. I don’t have a problem with that,” Fisher said.

Like Fisher said, things like this happen and it’s on Florida State to change the signals, especially when they have a former staff member on the opposing sideline.

A) It isn't cheating

disagree..  Not the least bit surprising since we are polar opposites when it comes to ethics integrity and honesty.

B) FSU does cheat, and does it with the best of them

Ah yes! the everybody does it excuse for dishonesty.  Again and this has to do with Auburn stealing signals and plays the first half ? Wasn't everyone astonished by Auburn's defensive performance in which you have stated more than once "AUBURN DEFENSE SUCKS" if I many paraphrase your commentary on Auburn?

I am just providing the rest of the story on Towels down and Towels up confirming the assertion and tainting the Auburn defensive performance the first half.

Hey FSU won despite the handicap the first half.  Blame Fisher?  I would rather blame the cheater..  JMO   Still waiting for Craig to stand up and take credit for the great first half...Yet he remains totally silent?  hmmmm?

Well, you're wrong. There's no rule against it, and any team that can do it, will do it. It is not cheating.

That wasn't the point at all. I am pointing out your hypocritical nature. You whine about other teams cheating, and turn a blind eye to the dirtiness that is FSU athletics. What was that about ethics, honesty, and integrity, again?

But again, what AU was doing was NOT cheating, and there is no argument that it is.

AU's defense does suck, and this game would have been nowhere near close, had they not performed the completely legal practice of stealing FSU's signals.

No you aren't. You, as a fan of one of the dirtiest football programs in the country, are claiming "cheating", when there was none to speak of.
If you want to have the discussion, then have it, but don't call the practice something that it isn't.

They could have done something to stop the signal stealing earlier. Fisher just wasn't listening to those telling him that it was going on.

Also, if you think for one second that FSU has never stolen signals or attempted to steal signals, then you are a special kind of stupid.

So Alabama knew every play Auburn was running on offense before they ran the play?  Damn Bama was far worse than I thought!  LOL

What dirtiness?    When has FSU been charged with a "LACK OF INSTITUTIONAL CONTROL"?

But again, what AU was doing was NOT cheating, and there is no argument that it is.

As explained earlier it wasn't just signals it was the exact plays that were being run and as soon as the towels came up Auburn's defense returned to their actual weakness on defense.

Look you have already been shown to be a liar so I am not the least bit surprised by any comment you make my "Little Pinocchio"

What is laughable is any Alabama fan having the unmitigated gall to call any other school cheaters!

Just because Bama got embarrassed by Oklahoma and beaten by "GOT A SECOND I WOULD LIKE TO RUN SOMETHING  BY YOU" Auburn is no reason to be so envious and jealous of FSU.  Bama has had a fine program over the last few years no need to be so butt hurt over someone taking the title this year.

FSU is one of the dirtiest college football programs there is. If you disagree, take it up with the DOZENS of writers of all the articles that pop up in a google search and name them one of the dirtiest.

Because Bama cheats, I can't mention that anyone else does? Are you freaking retarded? While I may call another team a cheater, or another program dirty, I have no problem admitting Bama is a dirty program........ Which is a HELL of a lot more than anyone can say for you.

You are a fan of a dirty program, that won't own up to it, and you are calling out another team for cheating, over a practice that isn't even cheating at all.

You are pathetic.

All that drivel and rhetoric ......just a silly butt hurt bama fan that obviously can't produce a single example of a lack of institutional control charged by the NCAA.

Instead claims dozens of writers claim FSU is the dirtiest program in CFB yet fails to produce a single one.  Perhaps because if any exist they aren't credible.

Just calling FSU the dirtiest or a dirty program doesn't make it so...      Show me the proof with such a wild accusation?  LOL

I didn't know a program had to be charged with a lack of institutional control to be considered dirty. I consider a seven time violator, and the school responsible for the biggest case of academic fraud ever to be dirty.

This would qualify any other school as "dirty" in your eyes, as well, but we're talking FSU here.

Do your own work. Google "dirtiest college football programs", "dirtiest college athletic programs', or "dirtiest college sports programs", and your screen will be full of articles naming FSU. DWI

Wild accusation? LULZ

This is a matter of opinion, and if you can't accept the seven violations they've been charged with, including the academic scandal that caused Bobby to vacate twelve wins as proof that FSU is dirty, then you just have lower standards than myself. However, we know this isn't the case, and you would consider any other school with similar violations as dirty. You're just full of $hit.

When talking dirty programs, FSU is consistently thrown in the mix. DWI

Know what I found MORE interesting?  The cooperative effort between Malzahn and his OC on the sidelines.  OC read the secondary, told Gus, and he made adjustments based on FSU's defensive alignments.  Solid idea, well executed, nearly beat us.  As an FSU alum and fan it was frustrating to be out-coached like that but hat tip to Auburn.
