http://buccaneers.aolsportsblog.com/2007/03/24/report-lions-would-take-calvin-johnson-no-2-overall/

Tom Kowalski, the Lions beat writer for Michigan Live, says that although Lions president Matt Millen wants to trade down, he'll stay put and take wide receiver Calvin Johnson if he doesn't get a trade offer he likes.

Which will help them no bit and be another wasted first round pick for that team.

I cant imagine the Lions taking another receiver in the first round!!! The Lions have been shopping their pick so this could be just hype to get someone to trade up. I still think the Lions will take Thomas but with Matt Million, anything is possible!

LOL...if he takes Johnson he is so fired.

The funny thing is that this is the precise time he should be taking a WR.

They wonder why the never see the playoffs. I thought they would take Quinn, but the GM is Millen and you know he is WR happy. Could be a smokescreen just for TB to bit and trade up to 2 to get extra picks. If this report is true, which I doubt since its from a dam beat writer,we may just all order Joe Thomas jersey's after all :(

Here's John Clayton's take...

Clayton is right. They spent big $$$ on Furrey, have a #1 in Roy W what does Calvin get them?

All posts are opinions in case you are too stupid to figure that out on your own without me saying it over and over.
If you think Manziel is the best QB in this draft I can safely assume you are an idiot and will treat you as such.

They also signed I believe Shaun McDonald too.  Simply put this is a bluff to force a team in love with CJ to trade up with the Lions.

For the next 5 weeks I will no believe anything another team says  There will be so many smokescreens out there.  No team will want to show thier cards.

If Martz believes in his OL (who knows), he'll spend most of the game in the 3WR set anyway, so they would all see the field.  Not so much different than he had in SL.  McDonald comes in for 4WR sets.  I agree this is just posturing to get a better trade offer, but it certainly wouldn't shock me if it happened, and I don't think it would be such a bad move.

This is precisely a "come get it" move.

Yep. Nobody shows their hand this early, especially if they don't pick #1 overall.

This is smokescreening at its most blatant.

we could force their hand by trading plummer to the raiders after letting him know the day before that he'll have cj to throw the ball to so he unretires.....the lions would be under the gun if they let 2 qbs an d a lt get away.....this is just a fire sale to the highest bidder for cj.
