Even if his OBP goes up, that way he won't have the biggest stat of all.

I'd take a high career OBP than Williams for the HR record anyday of the week.

Or you could have it both ways and follow the Moneyball philosphy, Bonds is a poster child for it, but new age guys like Nick Swisher, Jonny Gomes, ect. power + patience = great blend. That's part of the reason a guy like Sergio Pedroza is one of my favorite prospects, even if he's very unheralded, I compare him to a poor man's Bobby Abreu.

There's not any tweak to the OBP that shows it was more for walking than hitting?

That's the whole point of OBP, it's the amount you reach base. Take his .450 OBP - .299 = and you'll get a .151 pt difference, doesn't matter, OBP > BA in a measure of a player's complete game.

He may have taken steroids, but last time I checked they don't improve your plate patience.

They cause all your hits to get to the bay.  And make your head really big!

Having an 85% contact rate has something to do with that too, when he swings it's usually at his pitch.

Did MLB have rules against performance enhancing substances when he, McGuire, Sosa used them? I don't think it did.
It was MLB baseball's fault for not prohibiting androgens and not testing for it.  That said, I hope Aaron's record stands -

This is the silliest arguement. They were illegal, period. That's like saying speed wasn't illegal in baseball because they didn't specify it. Illegal in society, illegal in baseball.

Let's Go Mets!

RJ, if the Devil Rays ever win the WS, it will be THAT much more rewarding for somebody
like you who stuck with their team through think and thin. How easily some Bucs fans
forget.

I don't think MLB has a urine specimen belonging to Barry Bonds that contains illegal substances, does it?

Baseball America / SI have chosen the Rays to win the 2010 series.

Joe is Alou - Beltran - Green the OF? I'm shocked Milledge isn't replacing Green yet.
