The point is that humans aren't born believing in a god.  Believing in god is taught.

These "believe in God" polls are always skewed because there is no universally agreed upon defintion of God.

How can someone assert that God doesn't exist when for some people (like my mom), "God" is the good in everything?

Those that are in postions of power and are beholden to the public need to toe the line and if that means telling a lie about the man in the sky then that's what they do. As well there are many private companies w/ an enviorment which, shall we say, are not conducive to a non-man in the sky belief.
