So My 60" HDTV......

Crapped the bed today.  I got home from Atlanta and turn on my TV to catch the game on my DVR, and my TV is toast.  So basically I need to replace it, any suggestions on where to get the best deal, what kind to get, etc?  While I know a lot about computers, I lack a lot of knowledge when it comes to TV's.  My old TV is big and bulky, it's a projection TV 60" HDTV (I've had it about 6 years or so), and I want to move to something smaller (not necessarily screen size, but physical size) now.  Hell, I don't even know what I am going to do with this big ass thing now......

go lcd. i have a 48"projection and a 42" flat lcd on my bedroom wall. a buddy of mine's got a plasma and is always telling me how much better the picture on the lcd is.

It's an RCA, which I know is a POS.  But it was GIVEN to me a few years ago so I am not really complaining.  I guess I should clarify I haven't had it 6 years but on the back it says August 2001, so I assume it is nearly 6 years old.  Hell, it may even be able to be fixed but I don't know.  A friend of mine said the tube is shot and it's a ton to fix and better off just buying a new one.  I had been wanting to get something more space efficient anyway so now seems like the time to just get rid of it and get something new.

I do know that I want an LCD or Plasma type, and definitely something SMALL in physical size.  The simple fact that I now have to load this thing up and figure out how to dump it sucks ass.  Is there some sort of recycling program for these damn things?

Bang for buck would be DLP, hands down.  Funny thing is a good DLP has the best picture quality and life expectancy as well.


If I was buying right now my choice would be a Sony KDS-60A2020 60" LCD Projection TV.  You can get one delivered for around $2,200.

I can also see the attraction of LCD and Plasma but space isn't a consideration for me.

Those are my suggestions for each type of TV. I left the model number for each so you can do some research. I'm also sorta exaggerating price on some of those, you may be able to find some of these on sale quite easily. Thats around retail for these though.

If you are going LCD, then Samsung and Sharp have the best line ups.  IMO

BTW - For anyone that can wait a few months laser TVs are on the horizon.  They have better picture quality than anything out there rigtht now, 5 to 7 times the colors reproduced compared to LCD.  They used less than half the electricity and thier life expectancy is reported to be double that of DLP/LCD/Plasma.

I keep waiting to buy a tv because the prices are dropping and the sets are getting better.  Now you throw laser into the mix?   I'll be watchin' the 2012 NFL season on my new tv at this rate--if our planet survives that long.

I bought a 57' Mitsubishi 1080p DLP a couple of months ago and so far I love it. The colors in HD on this set are amazing. Sports and movies are fun to watch. It is a bit bulky though. Cant wait to watch the Bucs on it this season. March madness was alot of fun.
