So cutting Edell reflects more on the coach than the player? How was Edell in the meeting rooms? What was his participation level there? Did he understand the offense completely, or did coaches have to continue to remind him of his responsibilities? How was he in the lockerroom? Did he add to the team dynamic there? How about his versatility? How many times did he run a route improperly? How many times did he adjust his route when it was incumbent on the WR to do so, based on the defense?

How much time did he spend watching film? Did he come in early and leave late? How about his playbook, did he always have his nose in it, trying to make himself better? What about the QB's? Did they have only favorable things to tell the position coaches about him? How about his attitude? Was he willing to play any WR position or did he tell staff he's only really comfortable playing out of one position?

How coachable was he? Did he absorb things quickly or was it difficult to get through to him? Did he and his position coach have a really good rapport or did they butt heads? Was he interested in learning how to make himself better, or did he feel like he had everything he needed but was underused and under-appreciated?

Did he offer to help the team in other ways? Did he do whatever was necessary to get himself ready to play every week? Was he a high motor guy or was he too easy going and laid back? How about his toughness? Did he assert himself and show people he's all heart and push himself to the limit, or did he just do the bare minimum to get by?

There are dozens more questions asked in evaluating a player and his value to the team, but since you already know that this is more his coach's fault than his own, you probably know all the answers to them already.

Edell and Grad had amazing timing together in the pre-season. When Edell was cut I was more worried about what would happen if Grad ever had to become the starter. Now we'll see, but Grad will really miss him.

I can't imagine though, if he were utterly uncoachable, could not learn the offense and was brick in meetings that he would have remained on the roster and even seen play time in crucial game situations.  Plus, anecdotal evidence from Gruden suggests that he had great practices and TC's.  As much as I love Jon Gruden, I really feel like this was a mistake based on Gruden's "blueprint" for a WR.  Gruden likes big over fast, posession types rather than field stretchers, and this I believe to be the reason he kept Boston over Shepherd.  All politics aside, had it not been for the injury to Joseph, Boston would still be on the roster.

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss has not requested a trade from his current team, Moss' agent said Wednesday. That's not to say a potential move is out of the question. If it happened, the Dolphins have a quarterback who could be used as some pretty tempting bait. Moss indicated he wanted to be traded during a Fox Sports Radio interview Wednesday, but agent Tim DiPiero said his client was just venting. If the Raiders decide the issues are more serious, a trade before the Oct. 17 deadline is still a possibility. A person close to Daunte Culpepper said Wednesday the quarterback still considers Moss a good friend and a great player and would ''love'' to play with Moss again if the opportunity presented itself.

Do it Bruce!  Make it happen!

Edell is what he is, a 4th WR on your team. That's why all the breathless hype about drops is sort of irrelevant, I don't expect him to make big plays. His job is to be semi-credible if disaster strikes. He is at least that and that is a lot, lot more than Paris Warren is.
