FALCONS SIGN HARRINGTON

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Falcons have signed Joey Harrington to serve as the primary backup quarterback to starter Michael Vick.  The signing also is being reported by Adam Schefter of NFL Network.

Financial terms are not yet available.

Harrington, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2002 draft, was trade to the Dolphins last year by the Lions.  He was cut earlier in the offseason by the Fins.

Makes sense, Atlanta is in the business of keeping inept QB's on their roster.

Update from PFT:

HARRINGTON GETTING $6 MILLION

A league source tells us that the contract that Joey Harrington has agreed to with the Falcons is worth $6 million over two years.

The total value is close, if not identical, to the package received last week by David Carr in Carolina.

Harrington has not yet signed the deal.  We're told that he is flying to Atlanta for the commencement of a Tuesday minicamp, and that he'll sign the deal when he arrives.

I guess this further dispells the myth that Simms got big dollars.

What's even funnier is the ATL fans are applauding this move like he's actually worth something. They keep bringing up the fact that he was a top 5 draft pick like that has means anything at this point.

I think he's pretty good, he just been in bad situations. And in 2005 he came into RJS and had a pretty good game. He didn't put up numbers but he managed the game and led a pretty damn good drive that nearly won the game.

So was Heath Shuler.

From a Buccaneers perspective, this is inconsequential.  Neither Schaub nor Harrington frighten me if Vick leaves the game because he's stoned injured.

I think this is a good pick up for the Falcons.

Schaub is no longer a member of the falcons.

I know.  My point was that this change makes no difference from a Bucs fan perspective since neither one is really a threat.

Good pickup for the Falcons.  But methinks they overpaid for him a bit.

The Falcons might suprise some of us this year.
