As soon as I heard this news I thought that Kelly's days in Tampa are gone. It looks like the Bucs can add one more need this offseason.

Yeah, Kelly's gone.  You can't waste the cap space his skills say he can get on a guy with that injury.  What effect will this have on cap next year if we let him go?

I agree, I think you will see DL (both end and tackle) addressed in our first 4-5 picks and at least one of our 1st 3 picks will be either a DT or DE. If Kelly doesn't come back then we really need to draft a CB in the same area. We all know that we need help at safety too.

The Bucs have 7 picks right now and we definitely need 1 DT (I can live with Wyms, but Hovan is sucking this year), 1 DE (Rice has shown me nothing this year), 1 S (at least), 1 CB (With Kelly maybe done for good, we need to get someone in there for when both he and Barber are gone to team with Zemaitis), 1 C (to at least backup Wade/Mahan or whoever our starter will be next year...we need to groom someone to take over that position) 1 OLB (Brooks is getting older and Nece hasn't played well. I like Winborn, but that still leaves us needing one more when Brooks retires.)

That leaves us with one pick left. With that, I say a FB. Alstott is probably done after this year. You can probably get a good FB in rounds 5-7. It's rare they go very high in the draft. That would be everything. I didn't even mention QB. But, if Grads can develop, then we should be ok. If not, then that's another possibility.

Also, if Buenning doesn't return to form, we might need to look at a LG too. That being said, we can always look to free agency for that.

The bottom line is that through free agency and the draft we need to come away with at least:

1 DT
1 DE
1 S
1 CB
1 C
1 OLB
1 FB

and possiby...

1 QB
1 LG

While i agree that he is rather inexpensive, he is getting older and turf toe is a lingering injury. Regardless of the surgery, chances are Kelly will still have problems with it. I definitely feel we should bring him back, but if we can get good value for him via trade then i wouldn't be that opposed to it.

Will we? No. Not what he is worth. Im sick of people not giving this guy the credit he deservs. HE LED THE LEAGUE IN INT's IN 2002! And he is regarded as an awesome coverage guy. He will make an open field tackle everytime aslo.

The Bucs are clearing cap space. IMO, they have several guys in mind that they intend to make serious runs at in the offseason.

It wouldnt make any since to cut him. First off there would be penalties. And his contract is very low for what he is worth/what we could get for a #2 CB.

His contract is a good deal when he is healthy.  But you do not pay a player $2 mil + if you they are not healthy and not on the field often.  In my opinion I do not see Kelly returning to 100%.  Is Kelly at 80% still valuable to the team?  Yes but he has to be able to play at least 10 games or else it is pointless to have him on the roster.

Spires, Hovan, Rice, brooks, Quarles, Kelly, Barber, Phillips, Bolden are all candidates to go in the next two years. None, except Brooks and Barber will be here. We should get as many picks as possible for these guys.
