But was there anyone better at calling a game in the 80's than Pat Summerall?

Maybe not in the pros, but in college, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone better at that time than Keith Jackson..

Rich Gannon and Gene Deckerhoff are the ONLY annoncers I like...

I did, however, like it when Dennis Miller was on MNF... He added some funny comments to keep everything interesting...

I'm glad someone else is interested in this! I agree with Bucs2002. I love Summerall. He was my favorite by far.  I really think Baldinger is coming along well and someone mentioned Aikman and Buck...agree with those as well.  I still love Madden. He may be getting older, but he sure still brings that enthusiasm and that makes him great.

Bob Uecker...

The only good thing about being a brewer fan is the chance to tune in and hear Bob during baseball season...

Great question!!!!!  I like Michaels too. But was there anyone better at calling a game in the 80's than Pat Summerall?  Yes he was monotone, but whenever he was calling a game, you really felt like it was the biggest game of the year

Gene is without a doubt my favourite. Thanks to him, I can at least listen to the games attentively, as opposed to watching the grey Bucs helmet move back and forth on Nfl.com Gamecenter.

I think Joe Buck and Troy Aikman do a good job too for FOX. the MNF crew are terrible, although Theisman was bareable in the Giants @ Cowboys game.

Gannon was good except he was trying to leak Grudens playbooks......good thing they got him quieted down at half time....

I almost forgot, Hardy Nickerson. That guy is the greatest thing that ever happened to sports broadcasting.

I liked (and still do like) listening to Jim McKay. I think he is a very intelligent sportscaster; although the majority of his work went toward the Olympics. I was nine when the Israelis were taken hostage during the Munich games in '72. I don't remember many events from that Olympics; probably because my mother most likely shielded us from the coverage, but I do remember Jim McKay telling the world that the athletes had been killed.

"Dandy" Don Meredith absolutely was the most entertaining football commentator ever. People who didn't even like football would tune in just to see him shoot holes in Cosell's hot air balloon.

Few here are old enough to remember Dizzy Dean (baseball). Baseball bores me to tears but I would watch any game he was calling.

College football has to be Keith Jackson.

Gene Deckerhoff, Hardy Nickerson, and Al Michaels for sports. For hockey, definitely Rick Jeanneret. He is the best play by play caller ever.
