http://youtube.com/watch?v=xQK_cRQhfXEAt this point in the game, Detroit was leading 5-1 with 3 minutes left. Inexplicably (considering the time left), Calgary coach had pulled Miikka Kiprusoff and put Jamie McLennan in net. McLennan responded by slashing the crap out of Johan Franzen as you can see in the youtube video.
The thing was, that was not an isolated incident:
The Flames took 11 penalties worth 36 minutes total in the third period. Defenseman Brett Lebda suffered a concussion after being punched in the face by Daymond Langkow.
"It's not about playing nasty," captain Jarome Iginla said. "It's just about -- it's 5-1 at that point, we don't like some of the whacks that were going on. Just trying to get something physical going at that time. It doesn't matter what they feel about it. We're just trying to keep it going for tomorrow."
General manager Ken Holland spoke about the incidents to NHL official Frank Brown after the game, a move seconded by the Wings.
Hopefully, the Wings can finish off this dirty, pathetic team tonight and escape Calgary without any serious injuries due to the Flame's thuggery. I don't think the NHL would be out of line to place sanctions on the whole Calgary Flames franchise.
