Which is the issue, if you think Simms or Grads has any long-term chance of being "the guy" then Garcia is a lousy move mainly because 5th and 2nd year players shouldn't be a huge liability to win games. What Garcia says is that they don't think anyone on this roster is the answer.  Plummer says it even more loudly because he's a guy this FO looks at and likely thinks has a 4-5 year lifespan and that means Simms and Grads aren't the man for the long-term here so no one is stealing reprs from the QB of the future because there is no future.

The team isn't a QB away from the play offs, they are building for the future, or at least they should be. When you sign a 37 year old QB, who was the second choice after courting a 33 year old QB, you aren't building for the future, you are desperately trying to win games at the expense of taking away snaps from the guy who, in theory, will be around when team IS a QB away from the play offs.

huh? You can't look at things in black and white, there's a ton of grey area to think about. Sure, signing a 37yr old QB isn't building for the future (black and white) but signing a competent 37 yrd old QB to hold the fort down for a year or two while you figure out what to do with the scrubs behind him is a much more clear picture (grey).

I mean, do you roll through your life thinking that way? If the guy isn't on the roster who are you taking snaps away from? Think before you type.

He's not a great QB anymore, and maybe he never was, but he's better than Simms and Grads so that position should get better to some degree that we could discuss.

of course every FO wants to win games, that's exactly my point. We agree for the most part on the Garcia signing. I'm not sure where people are getting it twisted, I have yet to see someone spit that Garcia will take the Bucs to the SB. It seems that everyone is in agreement of what Garcia means, I thought.

On the plus side, he is better than Simms and Grads. For what that is worth.

Such a tired, tired argument in the first sentence only to put your foot in your mouth in the second. This HC and FO just wants to win games, period. Do you honestly think they're making moves thinking "we have to get 9 wins to keep our jobs" ? ? Hell no, a bag boy at Publix thinks that way, BA and JG would get a job the second they get canned. They just want to win games at all costs and Jeff Garcia was one of the top QB's out on the market at a position that HAD to be upgraded.

Some teams continually hire old talent to make a playoff push every year.  Some teams only draft young talent.  GOOD teams do both.  They draft for the future, but get some "win now" guys so the team doesn't experience a lull while "rebuilding".  That's what BA and JG are trying to do.
