I don't disagree with the move to yank Sonny at all. He's a young guy who had already given up 5 runs in his debut.  Nothing to be gained leaving him in and no guarantee he doesn't give up more runs either.  People assuming he would have just mowed them down in the 8th are being overly optimistic.

The problem is the usage of Reyes before tonight.  The problem is his mis-management of the team all year, not tonight IMO.  He can only throw out there who he has.  IMO he did what he had to do tonight. You have to count on your guys getting guys out holding a 5 run lead in the 9th.  The problem is he didn't have his closer to fall back on because of poor management the last few games, IMO.

So Olaf, you'd be okay with running the circus out there in front of Reyes in let's say the 7th tonight, in probably a closer game than 5 runs, rather than running them out there to get three outs before allowing five or more runs?

Look Maddon's management hasn't been that great, but tonight was not his fault, not at all.

Chad Orvella needs to pull his head from his rectum, Timmy Corcoran needs to learn how to throw a strike, Fossum was blah, Camp was blah.

To answer your question, I'd say yes.  You worry about the next game the next night.  Especially when you're a crummy team.  What guarantee do we have to be leading tonight?  But you're oversimplifying it.  He shouldn't have used Reyes in a 5 run loss he did, nothing can be done.  Then he shuldn't have used him the next night in another nonsave situation, he did nothing can be done.  If Glover is your best option and you don't want to use him for two innings, then you use him in the ninth, he brought him in in the 8th can't do anything about that.  Then, when he has a relatively easy 8th you let him take the mound in the 9th, he didn't and we lost.  There's several questionable decisions there that all had an effect on last night's outcome

Again a five run lead, you're getting Orvella work, three outs to go, I see no problem with that, perhaps you switch roles, but if the man can't pitch with a five run lead he should be back in Durham.

Orvella shouldn't be up here, but he didn't jsut start sucking last night.  Maddon's job is to manage the team and the players on it.  His piss poor decision making is as frustrating as the piss poor performance of Orvella, Campa, and company.  Last night wasn't any difference.  No lead has been safe all year unless Reyes is on the mound.  Don't put the game in Orvella's ahnds no matter what the score without a safety net.  His net was Camp, Fossum, and Corcoran all of which suck nearly as bad as Orvella.  The "roles" should have been swithced period. Glover is your next best option over the last month.  If Reyes isn't available, then he should be your safety net not the set up guy for the bozos.
