Can Simms Come Back This Year?

This makes no sense. He would be a free agent at the end of the year regardless if he is traded or not. He is not going to sign a new contract with a team just because he was traded to them. Simms has absolutely zero trade value because he is a UFA at the end of the year.

Well why isn't he on the IR yet?

You asked the question, I gave a reason why they might not want to.

Unless a team wanted him bad enough and Simms was agreeable to go their and sign a new contract. If a team wants him bad enough they may not want him to hit the FA market. They may rather take whats remaining on his salary here and work a new deal with him once he is traded to them. A little far fetched that you would think a team would be interested enough to give a pick when they can have him on the FA market -- all depends on how bad someone wants him or afraid they may not get him once he tests FA market or they dont want a bidding war. So it would make sense if someone wanted him that bad.

from what ive always heard about ruptured spleens, i dont think he will be back this year, nor should they even try, why take that much medical risk in somethingd? just put him on the IR and let him go to FA, this is rebuilding time for the bucs imo, and simms just doesnt fit the mold

im sure he will do better in other places tho

It would be no easier to work a new deal with Simms by trading for him.  At the end of the year he's  a UFA all the same.   It doesn't matter what team he ends this year with.  No team will have  more rights to him than any other.  Thats why the "U" stands for "unrestricted."

If you are Simms' agent you are going to shop him around to all takers at the end of the year.  You are not going to restrict your bargaining because somebody traded for your client.

Why wouldnt he if the money is right--- FA can be a crap shoot. The way Simms played this year it's anyones guess-- if his agent can get a good deal why the hell wouldnt he do that especially a multi year where he sees 10% of the total contract
