groove: since he's been a head coach, how many true "touch the ball 20+ times per game" feature backs has he had?
DeShawn Wynn had 143 carries last season. Kestahn Moore was the next back at 54. There aren't many 20+ carry backs in college. Last year Chauncey Washington lead USC with 157 carries, Jacob Hester lead LSU with 94 carries, Lorenzo Booker lead FSU with 143 carries, Kregg Lumpkin lead UGA with 162 carries, Jamaal Charles lead Texas with 156 carries, and LaMarcus Coker lead Tennessee with 108 carries. These are teams with typically a lot of talent and none had any more dedicated backs than UF had. Meyer says over and over he wants a running back to take over the job; the problem is none of them have. But keep spinning it however you want.

will start slow for the casual football fans: "touches" is not just carries ... also include RECEPTIONS

you proved my point --- a 5'11" 238 lb back like Wynn COULD HAVE carried it more ... certainly a better option than any of the other ham & egger RBs he had toting the rock ... but he prefers to have QBs playing short-yardage back and WRs lining up in the backfield ---- nothing wrong with that ... that's his scheme ... just don't kid yourself into thinking that it doesn't happen

and PLEASE don't bring up Lorenzo Booker ... the last few years need to be purged from the FSU offensive stat books with Jeffie Bowden "running the offense" --- the guy had ZERO clue and their pathetic rush rankings on the national level reflected that

before Stain came to uf, they could actually pitch to a prospect that there is the potential to be a feature back at UF --- not anymore ... look no further than 2004 when a guy named Fason carried the ball 222 times and also got 35 catches ... THAT is featuring a RB

Did you not see DeShawn Wynn the two previous seasons before Meyer got to Gainesville? He couldn't carry the load then, either. Did you see what the NFL thought of him compared to Fason? Bottom line, he wasn't that good and didn't deserve any more carries than he got. Fason was, and those guys aren't always easy to replace. There's no doubt Meyer likes a running quarterback and wide receivers getting carries but winning football is based on taking handoffs between the tackles and you can bet Meyer is in favor of that. He cut his teeth with Earl Bruce at Ohio State in the 80s. Classic Big 10 football.

You made up an excuse for Lorenzo Booker not being able to carry the load. Your new hero Jimbo Fisher only gave a near Super Bowl MVP Joseph Addai 187 carries in 2005. That's 44 more than Wynn and Booker in 2006 (roughly 3 per game). What about Chauncey Washington? Pete Carroll gave Reggie Bush 200 carries and LenDale White 197 in 2005. Did he suddenly forget how to feed someone the rock the next season? Mack Brown gave Cedric Benson 326 carries in 2004 while having a running quarterback. Did he stop believing in featured backs by 2006?
