SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The San Francisco 49ers ended negotiations with the city about building a new stadium Wednesday and have turned their focus to the Bay Area suburb of Santa Clara..........

I heard that this morning. Interesting.

Would they now be the Santa Clara 49ers? :)

From the way I am understanding it; the 49'ers will still be the San Francisco 49'ers. They will just play in Santa Clara. Their facilities are in Santa Clara already. It's actually a good move for the organization. Santa Clara isn't too far south of San Francisco.

Actually, Santa Clara is south of San Fran and closer to San Jose than it is San Fran. That being said, San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose all fall inside the same TV market. The move from there south to a growing area that's also a better part of town isn't shocking. The team will not change their name at all. When the Angels moved...they really didn't have much history. The 49ers do.

Whoa...shiver me ****in timbers!

It's the exact same situation as when the Rams moved south from Los Angeles to Anaheim but retained the Los Angeles moniker even though they were in a different county.

The Angels moved to Anaheim in 1966 after only 5 years of existence in LA. At the time they moved they really didn't have much history. So he's pretty much right about that..

Can't blame them really. Went to the 49ers and Bucs game last year in San Fran and let me tell you, that stadium is a dump and the area where it's located is pretty much a ghetto. Friends told me don't wander around the neighborhood if you get lost, stay on the stadium property. I saw why when I got out there. Yikes.

I hear ya. I was there too. Stayed close to the stadium at the Days Inn and had to shoo some freak away from my iron-barred window..
