Overpaid Player of the Week: Michael Vick

My colleague Ryan Wilson said it nicely on Sunday: Michael Vick is a really good running back who happens to throw the ball on occasion. I hate to break it to you, folks, but Vick just plain isn't getting any better at passing. Remember how for a brief time this season we were hearing that he was getting more accurate? Well, after yesterday's 16-of-40 effort in the loss to Cleveland, his 2006 completion percentage is now the worst of his career.

It would be one thing for Vick to be way behind in his development as a passer if he were still playing under his rookie contract. But instead he's playing under a 10-year, $130 million contract he got at the end of the 2004 season. Falcons owner Arthur Blank loves Vick, but Blank needs to stop thinking about the NFL like it's a video game. As long as Vick keeps playing like he has the past two weeks, losses to teams like the Lions and Browns will be the norm.

I still expect ESPN to portray Vick as this amazing player, though.
