Love Dungy, but he is the most overrated coach in the NFL.

LOL, what's his record since moving to Indy again?  Please.

What makes him over-rated?

Dungy LUCKED into his ring.  He has LUCKED into grotesquely talented rosters his entire career.  From grabbing the bucs when they had just gotten 1st ballot HOFers on D to getting Indy's HOFers, he has never done the things that so many here hate Gruden for not doing -- he never built jack.  Indy's success is in SPITE of Dungy, not because of him.  He had a talented team here and choked away the playoffs.  He did the same in Indy until his team won in spite of him.  Just a marginally decent performance by their D let the best offense take the trophy.  Dungy = overrated.

Much of the talent was already in place in Indianapolis.

Sort of...they won without Edge, who was one of their main weapons when Dungy got there. Manning until last year was known as a qb who would wilt under pressure. The defense he put together was just good enough to win a SB (when Sanders came back) despite most of the salary cap going to the offense. Guy put together a good program here, put us on the right track. Its funny, people here view Gruden as the guy who put us over the top. I wonder if Indy views Dungy as their version. It worked out for us with Gruden and the SB was amazing. Like it or not though, Gruden and Dungy each have one but Dungy NEVER has a losing season. Maybe since we are out of our salary cap hell Gruden can get us to that level of consistency.

i dont know why so many people hate dungy here, your not supposed to root for the colts or him for any matter but to say he is overrated is ridiculous. he's a great coach and he did a great job when he was here. you dont have to hate dungy to love gruden

I like Dungy a great deal. However, let's be frank about the Colts: with Tom Moore and a now very mature Peyton Manning running the offense, you'd have to be a pretty awful coach to turn that team into a loser.

BS.  Dungy was brought in to build a defense for a team that already had the O...that's exactly what he has done.  That D has gotten consistently better and better since he's been there.  Was he lucky to have Peyton Manning?  Yes.  But in the same way Gruden was LUCKY to come into a team with such a dominant defense, which by the way, had A LOT to do with Dungy.  To say Dungy is an overrated coach when he has consistently won is just plain ignorant.

Belichick was LUCKY that Bledsoe went down, for we wouldn't have seen Brady take that team to a new level.  Hear anyone with any intelligence call him an overrated coach?

What if the Colts hired Norv Turner or Jim Haslett?  You think they'd have a ring right now?  Hell no.

All these conversations do is turn posters against posters. It's not about being thick-skinned. The ugly sides of us all come out on these. And frankly, who really knows? Could Dungy have won if he stayed? Could Gruden have won in Indy? Would the Bucs be better off if they weren't in cap hell for a few years? How good would Belichick look if he didn't find Brady?
All hypotheticals. And a lot of irrelevant ancient history.

Dungy is better than Bill B. Dungy turned around a horrible team in a few years, while Bill couldn't do that with the Browns.

What a dumb list. There is nothing there to substantiate this list

Wow, there are 2 teams that havent won a game and they have the worst 2 coaches in the league. What a surprise

The 2 undefeated teams, both of which have 2 of the top 5 QBs of all time have the 2 best coaches in the league.

The fact is, if Belichick was in Miami right now he would be in the bottom 1/3 of that list and likewise if Linehan was in New England he would be in the top 5.

Wade Phillips ahead of John Fox and Jon Gruden? Pulease!

3 months ago this guy wouldve have Sean Payton in the top 3.

Same with Mangini

and Rod Marinelli is 27th? How? Why? How can this journalist have any understanding of what kind of head coach MArinelli is?

"Fire Gruden.  He sucks...4-2 is not good enough," is what you would have heard before the season even started...now he is GOD, or at least his right hand man...
It is never as good as it seems, nor is it ever as bad as it seems, even suffering through a 4-12 season

You must be accountable for your actions!

I think any coach with less than a 3 yr track record ahould not even be in the list. They should be listed as ''too soon to tell''
