But it isn't going to happen unless Gradkowski shows the ability to stretch the stout defenses we will face.

Dallas - #4 Run Defense
Pittsburg - #8 Run Defense
Atlanta - #9 Run Defense
Chicago - #10 Run Defense

If this offense is going to have success running the ball against these teams, they are going to have to be balanced, and have success all over. Just deciding to run Cadillac isn't going to work, and just deciding to run Alstott definitely isn't going to work.

Atlanta's and Chicago's run defense rankings are misleading.  Chicago is very vulnerable on the ground but their offense is able to generate points this year and the defense does not surrender a lot of points.  This forces team to abandon effective ground games to play catch up through the air which is playing right into the hands of the Bears defense.  Basically the same formula the Bucs have been using for years.

Atlanta's pass defense is near the bottom in terms of pass defense and their run defense is artificially higher than it should be.   Basically teams exploit their pass defense that they do not need to run the ball a whole lot but they are vulnerable on the ground and through the air.

Pittsburgh and Dallas are the only two solid run defenses.  Their pass defenses are middle of the road (like Tampa's) so they are not completley dominating through the air like they are on the ground.  So there will be oppurtunities through the air against these two teams.

Running the ball shortens the game and that is always a good thing for a team not playing well consistantly.

Running the ball even if it is not working keeps Ware/Porter from wacking your QB play after play after play.
