The source of the Eckel column is profootballtalk.com. And it all gets back to the Kauffman article.
I would tend to agree with Stereo: Gruden's probably not going anywhere. But if you're Gruden, 2-7 going into the Washington game, would you feel the same? Let's say he looked at the sked and said to himself 'What if I don't win another game?' Conceivable. The Bucs haven't exactly torn it up. So fearing for his job (as any potential 2-14 coach would), he decides to protect himself by inquiring about a few jobs IF they come open. Nothing more than ANY of us would do if we felt our jobs might be in jeopardy. Ira Kauffman, with an agenda, hears Gruden is asking about jobs and twists it. Now factually he has stated everything that happened, but if you take enough things out of context, you can paint a far more negative picture. The PI piece pretty much told it all. But motive is speculative; he can't say he didn't ask about a job. But it was a defensive move, not an offensive one.
As for the Eagles, we must see how this season plays out before we bury Reid and McNabb. The Eagles would have to eat a lot of cash to get rid of both and that's not usually their style.

Reid and McNabb are gone, so who's the coach and who's the quarterback?

There are rumblings and reports out of Tampa that Jon Gru den is testing the waters for another job.

Bring him back. In a hurry.

Gruden and Reid come from the same school, except that while Reid majored in even keel, Gruden took up emotion. Maybe, this Eagles team needs some of that. Oh yeah, Gruden also won a Super Bowl.

Next is to find a quarterback. The team could select one in the draft, and may do that even if they don't do anything else. It is time to get a young quarterback on the roster.

That's not the answer, not for this story.

After you hire Gruden to replace Reid, get him to call his old pal Rich McKay, the general manager in Atlanta, and see what it will take to acquire Matt Schaub, who grew up in West Chester and is stuck behind Mike Vick.

The Falcons are going to want a first-rounder. Offer a second and anyone on the team not named Brian Westbrook.

If you think Reid and McNabb can get it back and the Eagles can build another team that can get to the Super Bowl, ignore this.

If not, then say good-bye and thank you to Reid and McNabb and welcome Gruden and Schaub to the future of Eagles football. "

Simply incredible.  Maybe the writer there needs to become a PR Insider and read the latest story on the PR front page....LOL.

In a bizzaro world Gruden would go to Philly with Monte and Reid with JJ would come to Tampa. But somehow this is something that could actually happen lol.  :D

It's amazing to me that a little rumor causes this. What's funnier is most people in Tampa want Gruden gone but magically everyone else wants him.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

I wouldn't say "most" Keepon. It's just a lot of people are happiest when they can **CENSORED** and the Bucs' record gives them that opportunity this year.

Well looking at it deeper this is what I see.  Gruden would love to work with Westbrook and McNabb.  That o-line is built to Gruden's liking too just like he had in Oakland.  Defensively Monte can turn that team into a hybrid zone/man defense easily with a few linebacker pickups.  They have a solid pass rushing front four and a good rotation.  They have DB's that can play too.

Reid would need a Westbrook type to be brought in and Carnell would be the Buckhalter on offense.  The Bucs have WR's that are already superior than what Reid has had in Philly for most of his career (except this year).   Reid does employ the shotgun and uses a lot of screens.

Defensively JJ uses the same type of players on defense that Monte uses.  Penetrating, pass rushing defensive lineman except with blitzing LB's and DB's.  Ronde is already a very good blitzing CB.  JJ would need a few DL's and DB's to install his defensive scheme in Tampa.

Monte could get the Tampa 2 to work HERE again also IF he had someone to pressure the QB.

That's the key....but I am not gonna drub up the same old stuff we have read here dozens of times prior.

Well JJ could make his scheme work in Philly too. It seems that Tampa fans want to run out Monte and Gruden and Philly fans want to run out JJ and Reid.  Like I said before as wild as it may sound it may come true!  :P

If Eagles fans really want to fire Reid they are even more stupid than Bucs fans.

Take a quick gander over any of the Eagles message boards (then again you might now want to do that) or listen to their radio stations and the Eagles fans have turned on Reid and JJ.

The Eagles were blown out by the Titans at home (yes you heard that right) and McNabb ended his season once again with another injury.

ADW, Eagles fans are idiots.

Don't you think the reason the Eagles were blown out was because of the injury to McNabb? Why would anyone blame a coach for an injury to a QB?

The Eagles are in the same boat as the Bucs, they need to rebuild the team. They've had success with the same team longer than most teams and now have to rebuild the roster. This is the NFL and the Eagles were one of the top teams in the NFL for years. TO comes, they can't beat the Pats and boom, the window is closing fast.

If you can't acknowldge that your team need sto rebuild it's roster then you really don't know how the NFL works. AR and JJ have proven that they can get it done and for fans to spit this milarkey about them because of injury and roster turnover is idiocy.

JJ is experiencing something that is happening to Monte.  A lot of his key defensive players are older.  Both the Bucs and Eagles need to continue to build their teams and they have started that the last two years.  This is where you are correct keeponbucn.

With that said if Tampa fans want a coach that can consistently win and win a few playoff games then Reid is Tony Dungy but with offense.  If Philly fans want a team that is up/down but has a shot to win it all (Super Bowl) Gruden is their man.

Why? He's no different than Dungy. Stubborn and set in his ways and can't win the big one.
