Sounds like what I have been saying for the last month.  Draft a QB like Russell, Quinn, MAYBE Smith, sign a vet to start/compete with grads and evaluate your rookie on an annual basis.

I said when Simms went down we needed to give Grads a run because he was the only viable option with McCown injured. I also advocated letting McCown play two or three games to evaluate him whether Grads was progressing or not. The only way to move forward is by assessing all your options and making decisions based on that.

Signing a veteran and drafting a rookie might be the best option, and if it turns our that way I am all for it. I have no allegiances to any player, I just want the best for the Buccs at any given time.

Don't read too much into what is written here Ray, its easy to get the wrong picture about someone online.  I am a lot more paletable in person, you might be surprised how 'normal' I am.

I have long been a proponent of drafting a potential franchise QB like Quinn, Russell, maybe Brohm/Smith early in the draft, signing a vet, keeping grads, have them battle, and wait on our young guy.  I don't recall you ever agreeing with that and in fact think you disagreed with that.  Glad to see you coming around, although I think it's not because of me it is because the more and more you see Grads the more and more you realize he isn't going to be a big time QB in this league......

Well lets see, Gruden drafted a ORoY runner-up in Clayton, and then he nabbed the ORoy in Caddy, and then he got Smith who is a decent TE in the making...The man has made some nice picks on the offensive side of the ball. He also picked BUenning, our best O-lineman, got Blood and Joseph, who are both starters on the line.

And I did not even mention the "steal" we got in Grads, or the work in progress of MLB Ruud.

Unfortunately, the rest of the guys are stop-gap, bargain basement duct-tape heroes. They can only sustain their output as such. Now factor in injuries wasting the roster, the age of the defense (collapsing), and it all makes too much sense. There is no way this team should be an 8-8 team given those circumstances. And we should all be grateful for the playoff and the NFC South banner last year with an even younger, less talented squad.

Blame Gruden, why not. It is too easy.

Well, i think we agree that Clayton was a waste of a first round pick and the jury is still out on Caddy. Yes, he was ROY but by your own admittance, he's got hands of stone and doesn't seem to fit Gruden's system. Smith i like and hopefully with a better o-line he could be more productive but under our current regime, young talent seems to regress instead of progress so i'm not optimistic.
