IMO, a top knotch WR will probably not win games (that's plural) as much at top knotch UT/DE.

Besides which who is to say Stovall can't be that WR next year.

Of the 4 first day picks, I think 3 of them should be defense. On offense, no QB or WR. EVen if we get a stud DL in FA. The defense needs a huge infusion, the offense much less.

We probably will have the mother of all FA's.  We need an end and there are plenty in FA.  We need a LB.  Those are plenty of them.  We need a safety and there are plenty of them.  At safety we don't even need a big time guy, we just need competency. 

I think with a pass rush our defense is not nearly as bad as it looks.  We went out and bought one before and we can do it again.  After FA we are going to able to pick the best players available.

This D is at its best when there are 2 studs on the DL:  one outside to force the QB to step up in the pocket, and one inside to collapse the pocket and force mistakes that our LBs and secondary can capitalize on.  We bought a pass rush once before, but Rice was successful because he was working in conjunction with Sapp.  If we bring in another DE in FA, we will still be having the same problems if we can't get a stud at DT to collapse the pocket.  Unfortunately, there doesn't look to be a FA market for these payers (maybe chance of Dewayne Robertson, if the FO thinks he can be the guy), so we will need to adress it in the draft with a premium pick.

There isn't one on the draft though.  Branch and Pit**CENSORED** are more 2 gap run stuffer types.  I agree we need a pass rushing DT.  I just don't agree we should a take a DT that doesn't fit our system.  We need defense, but there just doesn't seem to be any (outside of Gaines) that are going to be viable options with our first pick.

This is a very bad FA to be desperate for players.  Many teams are in a very health position cap wise because everyone planned for last years CBA negotiations.  There aren't that many players in FA that would be a significant upgrade over what we have already.  Some of the players that people are banking on being FAs in three months time will re-sign with their existing teams before FA begins.

So basically there will be $400+ million of money chasing a handful of premium players.  That will probably mean the players that are worth signing will get grossly over paid this FA.  If we come away from FA with one blue-chip player and a couple of potential starters will will be lucky IMO.

That's all we need.  The blue chip pass rusher and a safety that can tackle will do just fine.  If we can get a starting LB as well then that's gravy.  I'd like to see us shore up the D Line soley through FA because D linemen are just as unpredictable as QB's in the draft.
