From the point of view of a Red Sox fan, I will say the Rays look like they could make a major step up this year depending on how the young pitching developes and the bullpen. I honestly could see both the Rays and the Blue Jays finishing ahead of the Yankees. The Red Sox have similar pitching questions to the Rays. If Jon Lester can continue off his World Series success and stay healthy, he could be a great number 3. It will also be interesting to see if DiceK takes a step forward and becomes a number 2 ace.

Guillen is on the team because each team must be represented.  Apparently, Crede was voted on by the player's ballot.

Hey it's a far cry from Lance Carter being forced upon the team.  That was actually embarassing.

That's why I didn't make much noise concerning him.

Go to
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2008/fv/ballot.html
and vote for Evan Longoria and help send a third player from the Tampa Bay Rays to the last All-Star game ever in Yankee Stadium! I know it has been posted but want to make sure everyone does it!! Go Rays!!!

and Lowell?  What?

Lowell is not on the team.  Carlos Guillen is the other 3B chosen, but he has also played 1B and SS this year.  Here are his numbers:

.292, 8 HR's, 44 RBI's.  Fielding Percentage at 3B is .949 with 9 errors.

His numbers are blown away by Longoria's as well.  I sure hope he gets the final fan vote, or this will be some kinda screw-job.

Crede?

Crede was who Francona picked as the back-up third baseman...over Longoria.

Crede over Longoria is very questionable.

Crede's numbers:
.260, 15 HR's, and 46 RBI's.  Fielding Percentage is .931 and 16 errors.

Longoria's numbers:
.283, 16 HR's, and 52 RBI's.  Fielding Percentage is .976 and 5 errors.

At least Longoria is up for the final fan vote.  Everybody needs to vote as much as possible:  http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2008/fv/ballot.html
