Why the hell did we not pull the trigger here. ARGH! This probably means Gradkowski is out!

Buccaneers | Team received trade offers for Simms
Wed, 30 Apr 2008 22:45:09 -0700

Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers received trade offers for QB Chris Simms during the 2008 NFL Draft. The Buccaneers received at least two offers from teams willing to give a sixth-round draft pick and one from a team willing to give a seventh-round draft pick.

I don't believe this. Consider the source.

I can not believe you people still believe anything you read in the papers.  My dog told me that they were offered a 4th for him yesterday.  I can not believe we didn't take it.  My dog went on to say that Gruden wants Simms to be the starter.

gimme a break. a 6th is a throw away pick, it's basically like getting nothing at all. i'd rather hold onto him, show him off some, let people know he's not all gimpy and that he can still throw the ball, and try and get a 4th rounder out of someone nearer to the pre-season. if the gamble doesn't workout, then we just release him then, all we're out is a 6th rounder, which i could care less about anyway.

Who the hell is going to give a 4th for him???

Several teams are already lining up waiting for us to release a couple of our QBs.

I say let RC prove that the Bucs got any offers whatsoever. He can't.

Who the hell would give a second + a pick/player for Sage Rosenfels? Apparently there was some dialogue between Houston and Minnesota regarding it.

yea i seriously doubt we got an offer for him.  There is no way we'd get more for him than a 6th, and I think Allen would be dumb to think we could.

Honestly, with Garcia, Griese, McCown, and probably already had Josh Johnson at the time; what good is Chris Simms to us who's been out NFL play for 2 seasons.  Ship his ass out for a 6th.  I dont even care if a divisional rival offered it to us.....trade his ass before you just wind up releasing him.

If you have a second car you're trying to sell, obviously not needing it, do you immediately jump on a low ball offer just because *you* don't *need* the car anymore?

Not usually. Just because he's of little value to us doesn't mean give him up for peanuts when there's a very real chance someone will (stupidly?) give up way too much to get him.

hopefully they are waiting on a team dealing with injuries in training camp to offer more due to desperation...

barberiino....so that injury plaqued team will go after a QB that is injury-plagued, has been out of play for 2 seasons, and when he did play wasn't that impressive?  If you have QB troubles before Simms, your still going to have QB troubles after adding him to your roster.

I doubt any team offered us anything for him.  Also, no team will trade for him in hopes of him starting.  Maybe have him as a wild card as their 3rd QB and see if he can turn his career around.  Honestly, I think Colt Brennan is more valuable right now than Chris Simms.

i wouldnt consider a spleen injury plagued...its a freak accident not like a hamstring...and a quarterback who led his team to a division title prior to his freak accident may cause a desperate team to offer more than a 6th round pick

QBs that were on the field for a team during the 2007 season that are just as bad, if not worse, than Simms was.

Testaverde, Carr, Harrington, Leftwich, Grossman, Frye.

I'm sure there are far more to add to the list as well. Desperate times call for desperate measures. When a team inevitably loses their starter and is faced with a mediocre backup, suddenly Simms looks like gorilla glue ready to hold a team together.

in 2004, when the Bull was benched, Simms was named the starter.  He didn't last one half before getting hurt and Griese took over.

I agree he did have the spleen injury, but that wasn't the first time he lost his starting job primarily due to injury.  I believe in 06, if he kept playing like that, he would have lost it anyway.

Also Grossman and Harrington are MUCH better than Simms.  I don't know your logic there.  They also have much more value.  Frye isnt bad and started 1 game last year.  Leftwich stinks, as does Carr, and Testeverde...however, who's to say Simms isn't worse than those guys.  He hasn't played in 2 seasons, he could be worse than....well actually he could be the worst QB to ever step on the field if he trys to play football after being out of action that long.
