Watching the Chargers - Chiefs game and the Chiefs block a punt. The ball is touched by a KC defender and a SD guy falls on the ball. The ref then gives the ball to the Chargers because apparently the KC guy touching it was a change of possession, then a fumble which SD recovers!

So since SD recovered the ball past the line of scrimmage, it's SD ball. Then LT goes 85 yards on the next play for a TD. Not only does KC not get the ball at the SD 15 yard line, they go down by another touchdown.
Another screwy rule that must be tossed out. Imagine blocking a punt, not getting the 1st down but still keeping the ball.

If the receiving team touch the ball AFTER the line of scrimage the kicking team can recover it.  This isn't some funky rule, that is how teams get a fumble off a muffed catch by the return guy.

Wow! A little testy there guys. Never seen it applied in that situation before, but it makes sense once you gave another example. Maybe if Al and John explained it a little better it would help, but that's wishful thinking.

It's all good MJS. I'm actually listening to the game since the TV is in the other room. Should have known those guys would goof something up. Those kinds of things usually happen to the Bucs, especially this year.
