The main hold up at this point comes down to Favre, as the team wants to make sure it is not for a year only and he is willing to play out his contract which has a total of three years remaining on it.

Come on, yuc! You can't be serious! Favre loves his soap opera, he won't commit for more than a season....but  if the trade is accurate this is great news if true!

Well sure. EVERYONE said the Bucs could acquire him for a conditional pick, and the Griese part (if true) makes a whole bunch of sense since they'll need a veteran backup, he played last season for the Bears, and getting him in the trade will cost them less money in salary than if the Bucs ended up somehow cutting him loose.

BA loves conditional picks, because it's like paying for performance.

I guess I am just curious because there was a lot of speculation that it would happen within 24 hours and then other talking heads said it was unlikely to happen within 24 hours.

Anyways, I suppose I will just wait for a press conference, hopefully soon.

The deal in place is for Brian Griese and a third round draft pick with conditions tied to the pick that could become as high as a 2nd rounder should the Bucs reach the Superbowl.

I could live with that.  I'm a bit confused though.  Saying it could become "as high as a 2nd rounder" seems to imply that there'd be multiple potential levels of escalation depending on which conditions are met.  If the baseline compensation is a 3rd round pick, there doesn't seem much room for anything else.

There are  alot of dynamics's at play here, first is the Packers feel they are getting a fair deal, then the Bucs have to still move Garcia or release him, which causes a bigger ripple effect as McCown will most likely not resign with the team after this season, so the team will need to either transition tag him or franchise him or face the fact they will lose him after this season.. It is not as cut and dry as some might think. But a deal will be announced rather quickly in football terms.
