Hmm....I think I'd rather have Dan than Mahan.

Sounds like we lost out in losing Dan and getting Mahan back.

The Mahan trade is a fact, not speculation. The Bucs acquired him for a 2009 draft pick.

Mahan Didn't do a bad job last year with the steelers. Maybe a change in scenery had done him some good, obviously enough to warrant him coming back to Tampa.

Really? Must have missed that on the update on ESPN 1000 in Chicago. It's coming up in a few minutes so I'll listen close this time. Bears are woeful and they need all the help they can get on O-line. Hope Bruce Allen isn't giving away depth for future draft picks, but I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

I cannot stand this style of trading by Bruce Allen. He keeps investing heavily into drafts without seeking Trades for players and instead we send a good, what seemed solid, OL from this preseason to a team for a disclosed draft pick. We still dont even know what we got for Douglas.

Im tired of gradually building up the team honestly, when are we going to get the relief we need fast. Im not saying we need to pull a Jets like off season but I mean Buenning was a Gruden Allen Project that obviously failed.

Aye, So we cut Clifton Smith?!?!

Set Course for Tampa Bay! Its time we make Bruce Allen a member of Davy Jones Locker!

Does this mean that the Beunning to center experiment can be considered a failure now?

Wow... Mahan started every game at center last year.  And he's making some big bucks these days...

I think the 09 pick they got from the Bears was the same pick they gave up for Griese.

The Bucs are very happy with the development of Zuttah and apparently feel that Mahan is a better backup C than Buenning. Certainly Mahan was better at C here than he was at OG, and he did start 17 games for the Steelers at C last season.

Mahan is making about $3 million a year under his current contract, but of course the Steelers paid all of his signing bonus.

Ehh. Salary should be negligible. Not like we're hurting for cap space these days.

I think it's less the change of scenery and more the change of position.  Honestly, he didn't do that badly for our team when he played center either.  I can only assume that the team thinks he'll be a better backup center than Buenning would have been.

Guys on ESPN 1000 are less than thrilled about the trade. Very sarcastic. One guy even said "before the pre-season I was thinking if we can just pry Dan Buenning away from Tampa, we'll be set for our Super Bowl run!"

Right, salary is not a factor. The Bucs feel Mahan is simply better at what they expect their center to do, which is more than what many teams ask their centers to do.
