I really liked Dan Buenning and met him personally on several occasions.  It's sad to see him go.  I'm happy to have Sean Mahan back though.  This just seems like a weird move.  I really hope that we would trade for Jason Peters though.

Does this mean that the Beunning to center experiment can be considered a failure now?

Yes, it can. It just didn't work out, Mahan will be a better fit as the backup C.

So next season when Faine salary balloons and Mahan has a cap value of around 3 million the team will have 10 million tied up at center position

The pick situation is interesting because dont they already have a Bears in the 2008 draft, then they acquired two picks for Douglas a 2009 pick and a 2010 pick. Then they get an undisclosed pick for Buenning and ship a pick to the Steelers, so do they have 9 picks for the 2009 draft?

Garcia must have really pissed Gruden off for them to trade for Mahan!

They sent a 6th for Griese and got the Bears 7th and Griese in exchange if I am not mistaken

MarleyMon81 posted this on the PR thread:

Looks like Bruce actually got the pick back we gave up for Griese earlier this off season.

Bears | Buenning acquired

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears have acquired OG Dan Buenning from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 2009 sixth-round draft choice. The Bears are trading the sixth-round draft choice they acquired from the Buccaneers in the trade involving QB Brian Griese.

Mahan just flat out stinks.  Weak, slow footed, technique driven only.  And he is often seen getting shoved around like a pool toy, I am truly disgusted that Mahan is a Buc, and Buenning is gone...

This move makes me violently ill...Damn Bruce...WTH are you doing man?

WTF...  Mahan isn't an upgrade over my grandma.  This move has "doghouse" written all over it.

Yucc:

I don't have the year-by-year breakdown on Mahan's contract. I know it was about $3.5 million a year over 5 years, which adds up to $17.5 million, but he earned $5 million in year one which leaves $12.5 million over the next four years.

By the way, I see C salaries skyrocketing over the next few years, so $12.5 million over four for a quality backup at what is the most important position on the Bucs OL may not be all that much money.

I will respectfully disagree. Mahan is simply a better fit.

How is Buenning signed through 2009? He was drafted in 2005 and 4th round draft picks don't normally sign 5 year contracts do they?

Yikes!  Better hope the injury bug stays clear of the front five!

Given Faine's history, believe that Ragdoll Mahan will be seeing some playing time
