Is he worth ANYTHING at this point in time?

he is worth an awkward chuckle when he represents the team at midfield for coin tosses, you know, cause he's a "captain" that plays third string.

The most viable starting quarterback for the Vikings to pursue after the season would seem to be Matt Cassel, who is filling in for injured Tom Brady with the New England Patriots.

Cassel, 26, can become an unrestricted free agent at season's end. So can the Arizona Cardinals' Kurt Warner, 37. The Vikings could try to trade with the Cleveland Browns for Brady Quinn, 23, but he's unproven.

Regarding Tampa Bay's Jeff Garcia, 38, the Vikings have not been impressed.

I say yes, but it would be nice to have him if anything were to happen to Griese.

so actually you are saying no.

Trade him for a crate of bananas, they'll have a longer shelf life.

I think we'd be foolish not to keep a veteran backup who knows this offense. In case of emergency, "break glass."

Not a good pro-Garcia sentence...

What could we even get for him, and what would we do if Griese got hurt? I am not sure putting all our Eggs in the McCown basket with no real back-up is worth the late round draft pick (If that) we would get for Garcia.

Everyone in the free world know he's "on the trading block". Gruden would probably accept a 5th for him.

A fifth of gin, that is.

All our eggs aren't in the McCown basket.  They are in 2 baskets: Griese and McCown.

Since we didn't give Garcia that big contract everyone thought he should get, what's the hurry in trading him? At his age, we wouldn't get much anyway.

Gives us a free roster spot.  Maybe for a Returner that's worth a damn.  Maybe another QB to start learning the system.

Umm...trade him for what????? He's 38 years old and can't last more the 12 games. What are we going to get in exchange, a player from someone's practice squad?
