I would switch my middle class life with that of a citizen of France or Spain before they even got the words out of their mouth.

What's stopping you?

The magical ability to suddenly transform my citizenship, learn fluent spanish/french and whisk away all my friends and family so we're not continents apart.

The strippers will teach you to speak French.

Spain???

The middle class in Spain is tiny.

I'll give you Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and maybe Italy, but Spain???

Sorry but Spain trumps them all with their topless beaches. And my wife didn't mind that I "perused" the beach as I
was like a kid in a candy store.

Well, you'll notice I picked countries known for Hot women, Italy got a maybe for it's lack of blondes.

pack up and git 'er done - they still have planes flying to those better situations... it's a beautiful thing.

And once again that's the mentality of what we're dealing with. That's the most repeated line on this site when somebody
points out that there are other great countries out there besides the US.

But stay away from Canada! LOL.

Why is it a bad arguement? If you favor socialism, why do you hang out in America? Go to Europe and you will live a happier life if that is what you want. But no... instead you have to stay here, force everyone to live under your system, and make everyone's life miserable. The government will take more of my money and throw a heathcare card I dont even want back at my face. I dont want to be part of this universal healthcare system. But somehow I doubt the socialists will allow me to opt out of it.

Get a wiff of the American spirit and get a real job that has health care benefits. If I dont have something, I look for who does and go there. As an American I know that I could be laid off and my family will struggle and possibly lose my home and not be able to buy milk or diapers. I know that and constantly prepare for that to occur and make plans to prevent it. Thats the problem. Some people think their entitled to have a job , entitled to have help to make ends meet when in trouble. That isnt and shouldn't be the case.

You have to have a carrot to make people get off their arse and work. Health Benefits are the carrott, Money is the carrott.

Once again, this is what you wrote that I had an issue with...

Dang.. Listening to Barack in this commercial you'd think we were living in a 3rd world country and we are all miserable.

I'm a middle class guy with a kid. Life isn't bad. Americans should go visit Mexico or Canada. I think they would return with a real idea of what bad is.

I'm sure Canada has their problems. But comparing it to Mexico? Are you really serious about that?

You're not forced to stay here. You can move to another country any time.

People say that because when I visit Mexico and Central America, People virtually beg me to bring them to the US. They tell me of the DREAM the US is and how they would dream of living here where everyone has a chance. They wish they would struggle like the people in the Obama video. So when you have people here who obviously do not have a clue what hard times are and complain about the US you tell them to leave. So they can get a little perspective.

That's why every year millions of Canadians sneak into the US to work our Golf Courses.

And you will see lots of people do that in the coming years. I know people that moved here from Europe simply because of the run-away socialism and immigration that is occuring over there. For the first time in its history....people will be immigrating OUT of America.

once again - i don't hate anybody that thinks another country is better for them.  to hear them lament for not being able to live there breaks my heart.

btw, i do have the mentality that my country is the best - but i'm a fear mongering, bigot so there you go.

this notion that national pride is somehow bad is the funniest thing i've ever heard.  if you don't like it here, just go where you will like it - just wear shin guards so you don't bruise running into all the people fighting to get in here legally or otherwise.  LOL!

c'mon joe - everything people say that you don't agree with isn't wrong - hahahahaha...  go find a link to some obscure document that says otherwise...  i'm sure its out there.

National Pride is horrible when you have an overinflated sense of self worth and refuse to acknowledge flaws in your country.

Gee.. sounds a little bit like... Russia under Stalin, China under Mao, Germany under Hitler, Italy under Mossolini.

How dare anyone question the mother land! Deport and imprison all the non patriots immediately lolololol

No...conservatives are simply trying to protect America from turning into those regimes. They were all socialist dictatorships who all had the same mentality...being rich is evil. And that's the mentality in America today. It's scary.

i've never said it's perfect Mags, i just said if elsewhere is better, go get 'em.  what is so negative about that?  it's confirming what you just expressed - as in, agreement.

i happen to believe we are the greatest country in the world.  i'm not saying you should feel that way, i simply do.  the numbers of those flocking here is a pretty good testimony to their agreement, but even they aren't all right.

i hardly think national pride as i've stated is on par wih your examples, but if you got that from my post i wonder if you're alone?

No.

They all had the mentality that "This is our country, I am the leader. If you voice your opinion, you will be removed by whatever means required. Have a good life in service to me/your country"

Sounds like....this country since 9/11 :O:O

Because that's a stupid mentality. You're basically saying I dont care if this country has flaws and sucks, it is what it is so if you don't like it - leave.

Your mentality should be "Wow, maybe we COULD improve our healthcare system. Maybe it's true and we're NOT the best in the world, so let's do whatever we can to try and be the best possible."

But that requires humility and the ability to admit you have flaws.. Not in the AMURRRICANNN guide to life.

And clearly, this is not the best country in the world (whatever that means?). You can look at statistics like obesity, standard of living, average lifespan, quality of medical care and I'm sure a thousand other things.. none of which clearly crown America king of countries.

It's the mentality that we are the best that has caused us to fall off our plateau. Pretty hard to stay the best when you get fat and lazy so that the ingenuity and creative melting pot that got us there ceases to exist.
