It may have some to do with our advancement in a few hundred years compared to their advancement in a few thousand. They think we look down upon them.

And the fact that we help install and support those crappy dictators that we all know and hate.

I think it has mostly to do with our support of a democratic republic, that has been dominated by a single party which believes in a divine right to land not theirs and that consistently engages in; the seizure of property, denial of human rights, denial of access to water, medicine, education, of their majority population by the ruling, mostly immigrant, minority.

Usually we are picking the lesser of two evils. It's not that we actually like these people, but they serve our interests more so than say some other competing nation or ideology.

Lesser of two evils vis-a-vis the US Gov't is not always the lesser of two evils vis-a-vis the population that we are subjecting to potentially tyrannical rule

cyber actually makes a good point here...  if we were not actively involved, who is to say someone else wouldn't be?  is there no benefit to doing something vs. ignoring everything?

what'd we do when USSR invades afghanistan?  we didn't sit by and let Russia take over the oil industry, we funded bin Laden, Hussein, etc...

i get blaming the president for an ill-prosecuted war, but the war as utter mistake crowd just haven't been paying attention to how the world works.  its the very reason we go protect our interests abroad.  the fact that the war on terror is abroad is just an added bonus.

Yeah, nobody has been paying attention to how the world works except the ones who voted for GWB twice
and still think he was the a good president.

its the very reason we go protect our interests abroad.

Please elaborate on the "we", the "our" and the "interests" part of that sentence.

It's sort of complicated. It goes beyond Bush and America's policies of war. Of course the foreign policy is part of it, but it isnt all of it.

But this is something that most Americans dont understand.

They call us the "Great Satan" not because of our foreign policies per se...but they consider us a sinful culture and a sinful government. They believe that we as a society has rejected god and therefore are doing the bidding of Satan. It isnt that they hate democracy (Iran is a democracy for the most part) what they really hate is the secularism and the idea of a divide between church and state.

To the muslim world....the idea that we have our women run around in skimpy outfits having sex left and right, that we are greedy with capitalism and let the poor starve, that there is no respect for god and no moral law anymore is what makes us a satanic culture. Notice when Ahmadinejad spoke at Columbia university, he made a big deal about homosexuality in America. He fully believes homosexuality is the biggest problem facing America. He believes America and the homosexuals are the reason for the AIDS virus sweeping across the world. In fact remember that he claims that Iran "has no homosexuals." And in the Islamic world, they will kill them.

The muslims may think all of that, but really that's not the issue that makes them hate us.   There is only one reason they truly hate us - our support of Israel.

They're probably pissed because people keep misspelling their favorite terrorist organization's name.   ;)
