With all the different alternative locations being discussed for the new Rays Stadium, I am surprised no civic leader has recommended the land behind University Mall in Tampa.

We can all agree that the people that live on Fowler, Fletcher, and Bearse are a blight on the rest of Hillsborough Avenue, especially the crackheads and prostitutes that live in the ghetto behind University Mall on 22nd.

I can think of no better solution to the stadium problem than to have the Tampa City Council and the Hillsborough County Commission use their power of eminent domain to buy up University Mall and the surrounding housing, evict the tenets their and relocate them to the undeveloped areas around County Line Road in Wesley Chapel and Race Track Road in Oldsmar, and build a stadium on the site of the ghetto Wal-Mart on Fowler Avenue, with University Mall being torn down and turned into a parking lot for the stadium.

And all the businesses on Nebraska can be razed to the ground and that land turned into parkland or something useful instead of liquor stores and pawn shops.

Is the land next to the new One Buc still vacant?  That is a good spot.

I guess the USF area would be okay - get a few college students without much money to attend.

Would rather see it in the Dale Mabry - RJS area - accessible from bothTampa and STP/CLW

The Rays have a lease with the city of St Pete through the next 20-25 years that can not be broken. If a stadium is built, it will have to be in StPete

That sounds like a bad idea anyways. You want to take the stadium out of a ghetto with no life surrounding it, and put it into anotehr ghetto that nobody wants to go to?

I think the idea is building it somewhere where people would go even if there wasnt a baseball game going on, that way they could attract a young crowd that wouldnt normally be going to the games but would decide to go because it becomes a social event. Like putting it in Channelside, while maybe not feasable, if it was in that area you would be able to attract crowds that are goign to Channelside to party and decide they want to walk or take the short trek over to the baseball stadium and have a good time with other young people who are there. Aside from that, if you have some life around the stadium then people who are going there just to watch a baseball game will be more inclined to go to games since you can take the family around the area pre/post game to eat, walk around, shop, etc and not have to just drive out there to watch the game and get in your car and drive home.
