The Arizona Republic

When word spread last spring that receiver Anquan Boldin wanted out of Arizona, the Eagles were one of several teams that called the Cardinals about a possible deal.

The Eagles dangled cornerback Lito Sheppard and not a whole lot else. The Cardinals said no to them and everyone else. So here we are, nine months later, and the Eagles and Cardinals are meeting for the NFC Championship game.

The Cardinals were never tempted by the Eagles' offer. Boldin was under contract for three more seasons, so he had little leverage in negotiations for a new deal.
Boldin is an elite receiver, and while Sheppard has made two Pro Bowls, he wasn't viewed as being as good as Boldin. Like Boldin, Sheppard was unhappy about his contract. That was one of many reasons the deal didn't make sense to the Cardinals.

They were wise to say no. Boldin has missed five games this year, but he still went over 1,000 yards receiving and made the Pro Bowl.

Sheppard has a hard time getting on the field now. He was replaced in the starting lineup this year by Asante Samuel and later lost the nickel corner's job to Joselio Hanson. Sheppard's duty on game days now involves a little special teams work and not much else.
