Today here in Freeport is a day of mourning. Spc. Norman Cain III was killed in action in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb and today is his funeral. I'm sure it's a scene that is repeated in many, many other places across the U.S., so Freeport is not alone, however, this is the first soldier from here that has been killed in action during the Iraq/Afghanistan fighting.
If you are willing, please say a prayer for Norman, his family and for all of our troops who have made the courageous sacrifice to provide the blanket of freedom which we live and sleep under every day. Remember freedom is not free.
A small request -- please refrain from turning this into an anti-war thread or whether or not U.S. troops should be in Iraq/Afghanistan. This is intended to honor the memory and sacrifice of a local soldier and others around the country who have died while in military action.
Rest in peace Norman and God bless you!

We are all very blessed to have had this man serving for us. Its a very sad loss. I just looked him up to find his age and job, and there is a pic of him here...

Thanks guys. Ronde, hadn't thought of that and thank you for posting that link. I work with Norman's step-dad and have met his mom. Needless to say it's been a trying few days for them. Here's a link to his obituary if anyone is interested.

Thanks for sharing Morgan and thank you for all you have done on behalf of our soldiers. As bad as Freeport is feeling today, can't imagine your town with that many lives lost.

Its an active duty unit where 4-5,000 soldiers deployed from our post. Good to hear that lately the Iraq front is quiet. Hopefully Afghanistan can be the same soon.

Today's prayer goes to your community, Todd. But say a prayer for all who've made the ultimate sacrifice. This kid lived less than a half mile from me, I've met his father before...
