Yahoo's league source: Bucs' Cutler persuit fueled by Glazers

They already agreed to include the No. 19 overall pick in the scuttled three-way deal involving Matt Cassel and Cutler. And a league source told Yahoo! Sports that Tampa’s pursuit is fueled by ownership, specifically Malcolm Glazer’s sons, Joel and Bryan. The source said ownership is fixated on the fact that quarterback has developed into a long-term problem for the franchise, particularly after the juggling of former coach Jon Gruden. Knowing that the pursuit is backed by ownership should make the Buccaneers a formidable team to bid against. However, Tampa is hurt by the fact that other teams can trump their first-rounder, as well as offer other young quarterbacks.

This team DESPERATELY needs a name QB.   Then again, it's needed one for the past 10 years.    They just got rid of the biggest star on the team - Gruden.   They need something to be able to market this team now.  Raw Morris ain't it.

...Cutler had heard about Bowlen's statement Tuesday but said by text message, "I'm not talking about it."

A source close to Cutler said the quarterback was surprised by Bowlen's declaration. In recent days, Cutler had packed up his car in Nashville and had it shipped to Denver, where he intended to show up for the team's first minicamp April 17-19.

The source added that Cutler said he has not received phone calls from the Broncos since he received a text from McDaniels a week ago Tuesday. Whatever the interpretation, Bowlen decided to exercise his ownership powers and end all confusion. He's the boss, and he says the team will trade Cutler.

The Washington Redskins are among the leading candidates to pull off a deal for Cutler. The Redskins have a proven young quarterback in Jason Campbell and would meet the Broncos' preference of dealing Cutler outside their American Football Conference. The Redskins also have the No. 13 selection in this year's draft on April 25, one spot behind the Broncos.

The New York Jets also have been aggressive in their pursuit of Cutler. The Jets, who have extra picks in the third and fourth rounds, are better stocked for the upcoming draft than the Redskins, who don't have picks in the second and fourth round.

Four other National Football Conference teams - Tampa Bay, Chicago, Minnesota and Detroit - have previously expressed interest in Cutler.

getting the Redskins #1 pick gives Denver back to back picks.    to have back to back picks in the first round gives you a lot of leverage in the draft.   damn, why is it the Bucs have nothing, and also have nothing to offer?

You figure Culter helps in a lot of ways:

1. On the field - obviously
2. In the stands - he sells tickets and merch because he sells hope.
3. In the front office - If Morris doesn't work out Cutler makes it attractive to quality candidates to come to a pace where at least QB is settled.
