Got goose bumps and a little teary eyed when I watched it.
It was unreal. The expression on the judges faces were priceless.
Same here. So rare when a story like that comes along.
As to why are people so surprised? Well, it's rare that somebody without the accepted "look" gets a chance to shine like that. And we're not used to that voice coming out of an older, plain looking, (according to what the majority sees when looking at appearance) woman who seems to be a very simple person. And that's not an insult.
