I think Gaines will have his first double digit sack year this year. Under Monte he couldn't do it cause Monte didn't care about DL as much as DB.

Glad he's being exposed as the bust that he potentially is. Maybe now it'll light a fire under him.

So should I feel good that he's a dog but now he's an admitted dog?

Honesty is the first step to recovery ;)

Right, Monte didn't care about DL....and the color of the sky in your world is what? Good people in Monte's scheme (Sapp, Rice) got theirs. Hell, even mediocre players in that scheme got theirs (Jones, Ahanotu, Spires, Wyms).

I really hope he  is studying under Chuck Smith. I hated watching him just swing around the tackle and watch the QB step up in the pocket and make a play.

Just maybe the QB stepped up in the pocket because the DT weren't doing their job.

Really believe that's what made Rice so good-nobody stopped Sapp.

We've been through this with Rice and his sack totals in ARI and here when Sapp wasn't about.

Let's really just look at some other top end rushers:
What DT's are stopping QB's Abraham sacks from stepping up? Peppers? Freeny? Ware? Harrison? Porter? Kampmann? Allen before he got the Williams wall and got less sacks this year than last?

Seriously, Adams problem isn't that Adams doesn't have help it is that Adams has been sucking. He is supposed to be making everyone else on that line better not waiting for Jovan Haye to make a play.

I'm still pulling for Gaines and don't think we can call him a bust just yet

BUT, a telling sign was on Draft Day when Gruden said that Gaines would lead the league in effort.

I think they knew this guy would only reach his potential if the pilot light stayed lit.

Years 1&2, I think there's been a strong wind that blows the flame out from time to time.

Let's hope our new coaches can reach this guy and he can become a force.

Turn the page.

haha jeeze....that is not a good sign.

Just perform Gaines. Don't become a "Michael Clayton" and talk the talk but crap the bed again.
To reach the MC80 level Gaines would actually have to produce.

I see nothing wrong with him expressing honestly that he wasn't physically prepared for the NFL and recognizes his weaknesses.

Now it is up to him to do something about it.  That will be accomplished in the weight room and increasing his upper body and arm strength significantly as well as working on additional techniques at getting to the QB.  Nothing wrong with his wheels or his physical stature. ie Height.
