Is Urban Meyer the Teflon coach?
He just had the 24th arrest of a player since he arrived in 2005, and Lane Kiffin, who has yet to coach his first game at Tennessee and has yet to have a player arrested, is more of a villain than Meyer.
What up with that? Just because he was named after a Pope and has won two national titles doesn’t mean Meyer, or his players, can do no wrong.
Anyway, if anyone is counting –
FAU PLAYERS ARRESTED SINCE THEY FIRST ARRIVED ON CAMPUS IN 2000 – 0.
UF PLAYERS ARRESTED SINCE MEYER TOOK OVER IN 2005 – 24.
I could go into the “givers†versus “takers†analysis, but this once again shows the distinction between the kinds of players FAU and UF get. Yes, UF has superior athletes and has three national titles, but some of those players come with baggage that manifests itself in many ways, and one of those is on the booking sheets.
So, let’s have some fun at the expense of the oft-arrested Gators:

A. Yeah, from ‘Coach’ to ‘Warden’

Q. Did you hear about the latest Gators offense?
A. Hopefully it was a misdemeanor and not a felony.
Q. Hear about the best way to stop a Gator?
A. Taser.
Q. Did you hear what the new section in the Gator’s player’s handbook is called?
A. ‘Pepper Spray, Handcuffs and You.’
Q. After Mom and The Law Office of Jeffrey Meldon and Associates, what is the third number on all Gators’ speed dial?
A. Mathis Bail Bonds Agency

(Disclaimer: I have two kids that are UF grads, so I have great respect for UF and wouldn’t have sent them there if I felt otherwise. But enough is enough. This is no longer an anomaly, it is a trend. Meyer needs to do something to cut these numbers way back. Sure some of charges are dropped or reduced, but the fact is the players are out at times and places that put them in bad situations.)
