If nobody wanted to trade up into 3 or 4, and we don't really like anyone on the board.   Why not let the time expire?  This could really help us save a few dollars, and we could get Okoye or Carriker without over paying.

Then you take the highest rated person on your board.

I wonder what would happen if the time expires.  Has it ever happened before?

Minnesota was notorious for it for a bit there.  You just slip down a spot in the draft.

Yes Minnesota has done it before.

Oh, that's cool.  So you don't lose your first round pick, you just move down a spot.

The Vikings did it, but it probably wasn't on purpose. I don't like the idea, because as soon as the clock runs out not only can the next team jump up and maybe they pick your player, but the team after that and the team after will jump in until you make your pick.  The damage you could do to your teams reputation could be more costly than the extra bucks you would pay to the player you like.

That would make the Bucs look like a bunch of tards!

I have asked this question in the past and I vaguely remember the answer being that it would cost us picks the following year.

Plus I don't think it would work out, the Agent would put forward the case that his client was still a number 3 or 4 pick and should be compensated accordingly. The fact that we 'slipped' is not his clients fault but the Bucs. A similar kind of jockying that you saw with the Eli Manning/Philip Rivers saga.

That's exactly what happened in Minny.  There was a long holdout because the guy wanted to be payed what the original pick would have been worth.

Yeah I remember when Minny did that I was thinking wtf? I don't think the Bucs should do that.

I remember when Minny ran out of time, a couple of teams behind them ran up to get there picks in ahead of them, and there were like 3 or 4 picks in only a couple of minutes.  One of the most exciting moments of the Draft IMO.  Sure as heck beats only 4 draft picks/hour with each team getting 15 min to pick
