Raiders sign Morlon Greenwood, not Derrick Brooks

Posted by Mike Florio on August 16, 2009 10:00 PM ET
After recently working out a pair of veteran linebackers -- Morlon Greenwood and Derrick Brooks -- the Raiders have signed one of them.

Greenwood.

The news comes from Raiderbeat.com, and the move has been confirmed by the team's official web site.

To make room for Greenwood, the Raiders cut defensive end Derrick Gray.

Greenwood, an eight-year veteran, played four years with the Dolphins and four with the Texans.  After starting ten games last season, Greenwood was cut by Houston on February.

And so Brooks continues to look for a team with which to continue his stellar 14-year career.  He has started every game since 1996; it's hard to believe that he might not be in someone's lineup come Week One of the 2009 campaign.

Brooks also has recently worked out with the Saints, who still might sign him.

This is embarrassing DB.  Hang 'em up, already.

For the Raiders it's mostly I think about the 40 times, which would explain not signing Brooks.

I'm actually glad this happened.  I'd hate to see him play there.  Any team (besides Philly) but the Raiders.

Unfortunately, Brooks' entire career was predicated on his speed since he was always considered undersized for a LB.

Db may have a chance to get on with someone who has an injury or two or three.  Thought that the Saints would be logical with the injury to Sinineau.
