Break from the Gruden Era?

Two words on why this thread or that opinion should have never been shared yet - PRE - SEASON.

Again; 2008 Lions/ 4-0 pre-season & 2008 Lions/ 0-16 regular season.

The run game has been 3rd best in the league thus far this preseason, far from "anemic at best."

Take out the yardage from the QB's that won't be starting and you have "anemic at best"

Get used to that. Our secondary is a joke right now. They will get picked on every single game.

Even when the secondary is stocked with talent, you will se more big plays than we are used to.  The scheme is built on high risk/reward, rather than containment like Monte's was.

So Gruden got 7 years (and you think he should have gotten longer) to fix those problems, and Morris only gets 7 months? Makes sense.

When you make a change, especially at HC, it's supposed to be a change for the BETTER.  They canned a 9-7 coach who's defense largely led to the teams demise.  They canned the winningest coach in Buc history.  A guy that won 3 division titles (whereas each other team in the division has only what, one each?).  They fired a guy that not only took the Bucs to the Superbowl, but built the team they beat.  

In the end, it really doesn't matter though.  No coach will be a legitimate threat with this tight azz ownership.

When a HC is unable to take control of the entire team (defense included) what do you expect to happen?  The Griese/McCown situation doesn't help either and was the start of the end when that decision was made.

Hang on now...Gruden wisely left the defense to Kiffin. Of all of Gruden's flaws, the one that really seemed to hamper him was his failure to delegate authority.  He got it right with Monte, but needed an OC.    When Kiffin announced his departure with 4 games left in the season, the D fell apart.  That's a helluva blindside for a HC to deal with.  There simply wasn't time to recover. He really didn't stand a chance.  Even Monte admits he made a mistake in doing what he did.

The ownership fired Tony Dungy because they thought somebody else could do a better job coaching his team. Jon Gruden provided immediate results. They fired Jon Gruden because they thought somebody else could do a better job building a team. That's not going to happen overnight.
