CB Marcus McCauley,Bernard Pollard safety from KC and maybe lb Marcus Freeman cut McCoy or one of the "2 back up MLBs" on the team.

McCauley was considered a risky Day 1 pick in 2007.  He played extensively in 2008 as a rookie and was picked on by opponents.  May not be a bad option for the Bucs 4th CB.

Other Possibilities for positions where depth is a concern

Guard
Kynan Forney-San Diego Chargers (probably too old)

Tackle
Tony Pashos- Jacksonville Jaguars

WR
David Tyree- New York Giants
Aaron Kelly-Atlanta Falcons

CB
Mike Mickens-Dallas Cowboys

CB/S
DeAngelo Smith-Dallas Cowboys

Not really a position of need, but we may want to take a flier on Tim Crowder (DE) Denver Broncos.

he did not work out in the cover two.. he has size and would be a better fit for man coverage... Read up and watch him

I'm all for getting McCauley.
And releasing Cox.

I echo that.  Any idea what he would cost if we claimed him off waivers?

Hopefully we get McCauley in here.
The only reason I think we kept Cox was cause of special teams?
Other than that there's nothing helping his cause.

I wouldn't mind picking up McCauley and dumping Cox.  I also wouldn't mind bringing in O'neal for a looksey,I know he is getting a bit older but he would be a nice transition CB until hopefully next year.  I also would like to see us drop Stovo and see if Dallas Baker can bring anything to our WR core.  He was a very good receiver at Florida and would bring some much needed speed and better route running to our Offense.  I'd have no problem with Bryant,Clayton,Stroughter, and Baker on the field in the 4 WR set.

I also wished we kept Bo Ruud over Matt McCoy.
Hopefully we keep  him on the PS if anything.

Why?......

So many people are caught up with names, not just Bo Ruud, but Urraiti.

Urraiti DID NOT have a good pre-season. He dropped passes consistently and couldn't separate from his man.

He showed exactly the same thing he did with the other two teams that cut him.

Lions claim Marcus McCauley

Posted by Mike Florio on September 6, 2009 12:38 PM ET
The Detroit Lions continue to remake the worst roster in pro football from a year ago by scouring over the scraps of other teams.

Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Lions have snagged former Vikings cornerback Marcus McCauley on waivers.

McCauley, a third-round pick in 2007, will now be in position to help the Lions figure out how to beat the Vikings when they come to town in Week Two.

And the Lions will have the right to continue to cherry pick any and all players put on waivers through the first three weeks of the season.  At that time, the 2009 won-loss records will control waiver priority.

If the Lions work hard and apply themselves, maybe they'll continue to be at the top of the pecking order.
