Who is mentoring Gaines again?  Oh yeah, slow, power rush guys.  Uhhh...

I remember hearing an interview with Gaines after the draft and he mentioned that Simeon was his favorite player and idol. He claims to have tried to model his game after Sim. I wonder if having Rice around would have helped him at all. It at least must have been disappointing for Gaines to think he was going to get to play and learn from his idol, only to have Rice gone before TC was over.

No

I like Gaines and will be patient, unlike 99% of you people on here. THe kid needs to get acclimated, it's 7 freak'n games of his pro career and you fools have already pasted him, it's disgusting to be honest.

Interesting offering on the player's approach to the game and need to build strength.

I still think it's too early to tell. Although I'm getting very impatient with him, I'm going to reserve calling him a bust for a while. At least until maybe halfway through the next season.

Like some of those posters mentioned though, it would surely help if he had good interior lineman playing with him. There have been times when GA was close to getting to the QB, but with no inside pressure the QB just steps up and avoids him. We've seen this even with Rice the past couple seasons. It can't be said enough times that we desperately need a disruptive DT. Until we get one, this defense will never get consistent pressure and we'll continue seeing QBs step up into the pocket to avoid the ends. I hope we can grab one in the draft, maybe Dorsey or Okam

I agree with the sosa guy...

The fact that Gaines doesn't get to play with at least an above avg. lineman isn't helping anything.

Yes he will be fine!  You have to give him time...he will get bigger in the off-season and it can only get better...So YES he will be good!

I agree with the Clemson fans. As a FSU fan and ACC fan I had a ton of respect for Gaines Adams. You guys should really listen to these Clemson fans and take their word over some schlub like Ian Beckles

Those Clemson fans are very smart. Im sure there is some homer in them, but they did a great job describing him.

Give him time. Once he is acclimated to the speed of the game you will be pleased that you got him.

One of my best friends and fellow buc season tix holder is a Clemson grad and huge fan... to the point of going up there for 2-3 games a year. He told me, and I posted this prior to the draft, that he hoped that we didn't draft Gaines and that he felt he wouldn't live up to the hype.

Sure a bunch of his old Alumni are going to give a real balanced view.  Should we listen to the USF fans touting Grothe for the Hiesman and a bright NFL future?

Bottom line is Gaines isn't getting it done right now.  He is under sized and getting pushed around a lot.  He gets some slack as a rookie but he better bulk up for next season and step his game up.

undersized? I dont think so

The difference between Gaines and Grothe is that Gaines Adams was without a doubt the best DE in college football. I'm not applauding these Clemson fans for being homers, Im saying that I have made it clear for months that I agree with the exact things they are saying. It is obvious how many people on here have very little knowledge of Gaines Adams, as opposed to a  group of people who saw him play a lot and know what kind of player he is. Local schmucks like Beckles were writing the guy off after 3 training camp practices. Just wiat until he gets his feet under him he is going to prove a lot of people wrong. It is just yet another case of a knee jerk reaction by local media and fringe fans

Adams and Mario WIlliams arernt apples to oranges. Sure their playing style is different, but I remember last year saying that Mario WIlliams and Manny Lawson were terrors in college and that Mario Williams would be a damn fine player. The knee jerk reaction was that Williams was a bust, and he is starting to get his feet under him now. He was another ACC player that I saw a lot of in college and just knew he would be a monster. The first game Gaines Adams takes over will shut a lot of people up

Yes, He's not as bad as you think.  People are judging him on the number of sacks.  He's doing other things well. He'll get his sacks.

We drafted him for pass-rush, so that means sacks. If we wanted a guy to do the other things well, we could've gotten Dan Bazuin in R3.
