Not sure what is being accomplished with this move...unless it is to let leftwich resign with the Steelers.

Actually READ the article:

"But veteran Byron Leftwich is staying put. Leftwich, 29, went 0-3 as a starter for the Bucs after winning a training camp battle with Luke McCown, who was traded.

But he has not been able to practice or play the past several weeks because of tendonitis in his right throwing elbow. Carpenter would provide immediate help on the look squad."

Byron Leftwich-QB- Buccaneers Nov. 23 - 8:00 pm et

The Bucs signed QB Rudy Carpenter off the Cowboys' practice squad, which may be a sign that Byron Leftwich will soon be gone.

Carpenter was signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State. Leftwich went 0-3 as the Bucs starter to open the season after beating out Luke McCown in training camp. He is now the team's No. 3 quarterback but hasn't practiced in the past several weeks due to tendinitis in his right elbow. Leftwich may be running out of options in the league.

It can't be about money, Leftwich's salary is guaranteed if he's cut. Pittsburgh must be happy to hear this.

Quit beefing about the past and start hoping for the future

I'm thinking maybe Pittsburg contacted the Bucs about Leftwich so a trade may be coming soon, he already knows the Steeler's offense and almost went back there anyways, more insurance than Dennis Dixon
